The Department of Transportation rewarded two employees of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and a taxi driver for their honesty and hailed them as modern-day heroes in a small awarding ceremony yesterday, February 9, 2017.
Among the awardees are wheelchair porter Rizalde Ocle, taxi driver Antonio Infante, and Airport Security Guard Alfredo Baldoza.
Mang Rizalde returned USD 11,000 cash equal to Php550,000 to an Iloilo-bound passenger. He found the money left the at the first X-Ray scanner in the Departure Area of NAIA Terminal on January 21.
Two days before that, Antonio Infante, a 71-year-old taxi driver, returned the Php220,000 left by a passenger bound for Cebu. Mary Jane Gane, owner of the bag, was very grateful for his honesty as she claimed her valuables at the Lost and Found Section of the airport.
Meanwhile Airport Security Guard Alfredo Baldoza returned a hand bag that contained USD 5,500 or equal to about Php275,000 that he found at the taxi unloading bay.
According to DOTr’s official Facebook account, Secretary Arthur Tugade gave the three modern-day heroes checks with undisclosed amounts that came from his personal funds.
And here’s where it gets a bit more emotional.
After seeing Mang Antonio’s cleft lip, Sec. Tugade called his friend doctor to ask for a little favor; to operate on the taxi driver for free! Mang Antonio will receive the treatment at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center.
Sec. Tugade and the three modern-day heroes posed for the cameras with President Duterte’s signature fist sign. The department secretary was quoted as saying, “Boss, we have honest people here. This is for you.”
He then urged other airport personnel and the entire nation to follow the example of the three honest Pinoys.
They say that crime does pay. Now, we know good deeds definitely do!
