Melania Trump delivered her speech at the Republican National Convention on Monday night, but her message was overshadowed by accusations that she stole some lines from the First Ladys’ own speech at 2008 Democratic National Convention. The social media were abuzz with the striking similarities between the two speeches, specifically in two passages where the match is nearly word-for-word. The first narrates the two women’s experiences on how they were supposedly raised by their parents. Here are the passages: “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. This is what Mrs. Trump said: “And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.” And this is Mrs. Obama’s original version: “And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and to pass them on to the next generation.
