In an announcement, the embassy instructed Filipinos not to publicly discuss the issue or matters of a political nature either in public or in social media so as not to place their welfare in jeopardy. “Avoid gathering to talk about political issues in public, do not join discussions or debates about political issues, especially on social media,” <a href="http://www.rappler.com/nation/139378-philippine-embassy-beijing-filipinos-china-hague-ruling">Rappler </a>quoted the embassy as saying. The embassy also told Filipinos to stay on the lookout for news and updates, to bring their passports/residence permits with them at all times, and to promptly call the embassy or local police hotline to inform them of any threats. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> “It is important to be careful of your personal safety. The embassy hopes for your cooperation and support to protect the welfare of all Filipinos in China,” it said. The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) is set to release its ruling on the dispute involving China and the Philippines. The decision would either uphold the country’s 200-nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) or validate China’s 9-Dash Line. China has refused to participate in the proceedings on the argument the ITLOS has no jurisdiction to hear the case. Supreme Court allows petition of Rappler to livestream third presidential debates

The SC justices voted 14-0, granting Rappler their petition and ordering the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to let other websites livestream the third and final presidential debate. COMELEC originally granted exclusive rights to broadcast network ABS-CBN to livestream the debate scheduled on April 24. With the SC ruling, Rappler and other websites will also be able to stream live the only vice presidential debate scheduled on April 10. Earlier, livestreaming rights for the first and second presidential debates held last February 21 and March 20 were granted by COMELEC only to GMA News and TV5; the media organizers of the respective events. Rappler sued the poll agency; questioning its power to impose and grant broadcast rights of presidential debates. The online news organization argued that giving exclusive rights only to the three networks and their chosen partners was unfair. “When the MOA grants copyright and fair use rights to the lead networks, the respondent is necessarily imposing a barrier to the free flow of information arising from the debates. This expresses itself in various ways,” <a href="http://www.rappler.com/views/123020-rappler-sues-comelec-chief-sc-debates">Rappler</a> wrote in its petition. Emphasizing yet again his preference for action rather than words, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte promised Filipinos his presidency would provide leadership aside from just implementing programs and platforms. “All of my opponents, they have presented their programs. I made short remarks, bullet remarks, all of these are platforms, (but) I can tell you now that I will provide the leadership. Not only the platforms, but leadership,” he said. In saying he will provide the guidance, Duterte  —who reiterated he will do his utmost best to eradicate crime and corruption in government in three to six months as he promised — nevertheless added he’s always open to adopting the programs of his opponents if he finds them good. “And maybe copy the best of their programs at ayusin ko [I’ll improve it],” he said. “What’s good in their programs, I will adopt it if it’s good.” Walk, Not Talk According to seasoned debater Nicole Curato, the debate essentially highlighted the mayor as a man who prefers to walk rather than talk. “Part of the Duterte mystique is he doesn’t talk much. Petition to disqualify ‘biased’ ABS-CBN from hosting debates gains ground

<ul><li style="text-align: justify;">A petition demanding that ABS-CBN be disqualified from hosting debates for supposedly being biased was launched at Change.org</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">The petition is  signed by nearly 29, 000 supporters</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">The petitioner also accused ABS-CBN of being loyal to the Aquinos and alluded to Korina Sanchez’s close association with the Lopez network</li> </ul>MANILA, Philippines – A petition demanding that the ABS-CBN network be disqualified from hosting election debates due to the station’s alleged bias was launched last week at<a href="https://www.change.org/p/philippines-disqualify-the-extremely-bias-abs-cbn-from-hosting-televised-presidential-debates-2016/u/15598030"> Change.org </a>and is quickly earning support from signatories. The petition was started by one Figo Santos from Marikina City on February 22 and has now gained nearly 29,000 online signatures. “Due to their Obvious BIAS stand and track record on being an LP Puppet, let’s all join and make a stand to disqualify ABS-CBN on hosting the Nationwide Presidential Debate scheduled on them. Let it be moved to CNN Philippines instead,” the petition read. The petitioner and some signatories has accused the Kapamilya network of being biased in favor of administration and Liberal Party (LP) bet Mar Roxas and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo. Most of the comments alluded to Roxas’ wife Korina Sanchez’s close association with the television giant which is owned by the Lopez family. “Remember, Ms. Korina Sanchez is an institution sa ABS-CBN at asawa siya ni Mar Roxas [and she is Mar Roxas’ wife],” Figo wrote. The petitioner also did not spare the TV station whom they accuse of being loyal to the Aquinos (referring to the incumbent president and his mother, Cory.) “ABS CBN’s loyalty to the Aquinos is so entrench that they have lost all objectivity when the news purports to them. This Media outlet knows how to control the nationwide news,” the petitioner added. The petitioner went to the extent of suggesting that in case the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and the Commission on Election (Comelec) won’t agree on disqualifying ABS-CBN from hosting the debate, the citizens must try to convince the other presidentiables (Binay, Duterte, Poe and Santiago) not to attend the event. The Comelec has scheduled debates  for the presidential candidates before the election dubbed as “Pilipinas Debates 2016”. The very first one was held last February 21 in Cagayan De Oro City and hosted by media partners GMA Network and Inquirer. The second presidential debate is set on March 20 at the Univeristy of the Philippines (UP)–Cebu with TV5, Philippine Star and Businessworld as media partners. The last and final debate will be held April 24 at University of Pangasinan to be hosted by ABS-CBN and Manila Bulletin. Meanwhile, the only debate set for vice presidential candidates will be held on April 10 at the University of Santo Tomas with CNN Philippines, Rappler and Business Mirror as media partners.
