He suffered from <b>Balamuthia Mandrillaris </b>(brain eating amoeba) and passed away on the <b>25th </b>of <b>September</b>. </div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">Leland’s father, Tim, found the note placed in the living room where Leland was fond of doing his drawings. As Tim was reading the letter, he started to shed tears and immediately ran to his wife to show to her what he found.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">“Still with you. Thank You Mom and Dad. Love You Mom and Dad.”</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">“To say I lost it was an understatement. We cried for the longest time,” Amber, Leland’s mom, said.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">On Facebook, Leland’s mother said that he is smart and a curious boy.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">“He knew his abc’s, numbers, colors, shapes and 20 sight words by the time he was a year old. He was our little nerd and we loved that about him. He loved school and loved to learn. He loved the history channel, the weather channel, documentaries and anything about history,” she wrote on her social media account.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">“He had a hunger for learning,” she added.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">Leland was also sociable. A three-year-old child of Steele was also in the car.</p><br/><p>The incident happened after Steele brought her children to a pediatrician over concerns that the baby girl wasn’t eating. The doctor, however, reportedly found nothing wrong with her.</p><br/><p>Reports from Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office state that the baby, who was also named Kathleen, began crying after their mother left, and the six year-old started beating the baby to stop her crying.</p><br/><p>“He was tossing that baby around like a rag doll,” Pinellas County Sheriff <a href="http://www.bigstory.ap.org/article/ba511e8fb10c476880ca082f161141d4/mother-charged-after-son-beats-newborn-sister-death">Bob Gulatieri</a> said during a press conference Thursday, shortly after Steele was arrested, accordingto <a href="http://www.bigstory.ap.org/article/ba511e8fb10c476880ca082f161141d4/mother-charged-after-son-beats-newborn-sister-death">A Big Story</a>.</p><br/><p>The incident, according to Gulatieri, is a picture of a single mother who seemed overwhelmed and ill-equipped to care for her three young children in the months leading up to the baby’s death.</p><br/><p>The 6-year-old told investigators he just tried to calm his sister. Re-enactment of the incident, however, revealed that the boy, who later used a doll, repeatedly slammed the infant’s head into the minivan’s ceiling, dropped her on the floor, tossed her over and punched her.</p><br/><p>Investigators said the baby was likely dead when the mother returned to the car. Her elder son tried to call her attention, saying something’s wrong with the baby, but authorities suspect that she ignored the boy and proceeded to a rental care company before heading home. It was only thereafter that she noticed the baby’s sustained wounds.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>Gulatieri called the 6-year-old boy bright and mature for his age, but he has aggression issues, he added.</p><br/><p>“By numerous witness accounts, Kathleen Steele was an inattentive parent and (the boys) were largely unsupervised and had very serious behavior issues,” the <a href="http://m.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11693114">sheriff</a> had disclosed.</p><br/><p>Police authorities said that the mistake in the incident lies with the adult, Steele; not with the boy.</p><br/><p>The two sons of Steele have been placed in therapeutic foster care.</p><br/><p>Steele, in her first court appearance on Friday, said that she understands the charges. Her attorney, Robert Love, said he wouldn’t appeal on the state’s order for Steele to have no contact with her children, as per a law.</p><br/><p>It was learned that after Steele’s husband died of cancer in 2011, she paid huge sums to be artificially inseminated with her husband’s frozen sperm to conceive her second child, a 3-year-old son, and then the newborn daughter.</p><br/><p>Her friends and family opposed Kathleen’s desire to have more children as she struggles to raise them alone. Steele, who used to live a wealthy life, filed bankruptcy last year.</p><br/><p>On August 2, an anonymous caller contacted the state child’s protective hotline to report the two boys of Kathleen who were ‘running amuck and were unsupervised’, police authorities recalled.</p><br/><p>The baby girl, according to Gulatieri was also earlier diagnosed with a minor bleeding in the brain which the baby reportedly got when Steele, holding the baby in the car  carrier, tripped going down the stairs when she escapes from a fire. The baby, she said, tumbled out; striking her head.</p><br/><p>After a thorough investigation on said incident it was found out that it really happened, but was ruled out to be an accident.</p><br/><p>Superintendent Michael Grego, Ed.D., in a <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/08/12/fla-sheriff-2-week-old-killed-6-year-old-brother-mother-charged/88617128/">USA Today</a> story, sums up the sentiment of many: “This is a heartbreaking situation. The death of a child, of an infant, is so hard to process. I am deeply saddened by this. <ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Paintings of  a 6-year-old girl with autism is bought by collectors, including Angelina Jolie</strong></li><br/><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Iris Grace is isolated at home before, unable to speak in the past</strong></li><br/><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The girl’s story is told in a book which contains her artworks</strong></li><br/></ul><p style="text-align: justify;">A quiet girl, who was once isolated at home, is now touching the world with her paintings; which are being bought by collectors, including famous actress Angelina Jolie.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“The story of Iris Grace and her best friend Thula has been told on Bored Panda before but what came afterwards was incredible. Iris, a six-year-old with autism found her voice through painting and her faithful companion,” Arabella Carter-Johnson, who is Iris Grace’s mother, wrote in an article which was published on <a href="http://www.boredpanda.com/autistic-artist-thula-therapy-cat-different-is-brilliant-iris-grace/">Bored Panda</a>.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">Arabella shared that with the young girl’s love and passion for her art, she began sending out a strong message around the world.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“Her artwork has been bought by collectors, including Angelina Jolie. For the first time our family took a trip abroad to Stockholm, a remarkable achievement for a little girl who was once isolated at home unable to speak or be around others,” the mother shared.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">The aforementioned achievement was only the start of Iris Grace’s journey in the field of art and in life. Now, with the aim to give inspiration to others, Arabella decided to tell the child’s story in a book.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“I decided to tell our story in our first book ‘Iris Grace.’ Three artists have come together, the painter, the photographer and the illustrator. Through words and pictures, you will be transported into Iris’s world with the help of Thula, their trusty feline artist assistant,” she stated.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“I wanted to raise awareness of autism, to show people that there can be a future, a bright one. The techniques that work for Iris may not work with every child but I do believe there is always a key – it is about following the lead of your child,” the mother added.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, many people online are saying a lot of good things about Iris Grace, about the ones who truly love her, and about the book.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“Iris Grace, just wanted to let you know that your paintings are simply the most beautiful paints I have ever seen,” M. Laursen wrote on Facebook.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“I am so pleased that the book is getting the publicity it deserves. You are doing a wonderful service to all the parents out there with children on the autism spectrum,” said G. Watson.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“Reading your book at the moment. Absolutely brilliant, I can’t put it down. Being a veterinary nurse, I love seeing the relationship between animals and people and Thula seems absolutely devoted to Iris,” commented S.
