Bagong Alyansa Makabayan (Bayan) secretary general Renato Reyes, Jr., who led the peaceful rally, said they were packing things up when they were called by the police and was told to go with them. On his <a href="https://www.facebook.com/nato.reyes?ref=br_rs">Facebook</a> account, Reyes wrote: “We were seated at the island along Batasan Road, resting while waiting for the pack up of the stage when we were approached by the PNP who asked us to go with them. The PNP did not say where and why. We just followed thinking they wanted to just discuss something. Turns out we were brought to a lounge where the President was waiting. He wanted to meet the activists gathered outside. Many had left though. Kami ni Beng ‘yung na-pick up ng PNP. The Mindanao delegation had to walk back to Batasan to catch up as they too were going home. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> In the meeting with the President, we talked about peace and how the president wanted to devote more resources to social services once the armed conflict is resolved. He talked about how the Lumad can return home without fear for their safety. It was a long meeting, starting at 7pm and ending at 830pm. It was a gesture we truly appreciated. I get to see a lot of operations centers around the world and this is very, very impressive, National Competitiveness Council chair Guillermo Luz told ABS-CBN. “For people in general, they want to feel they are safe. That in case of emergency, the government is able to respond quickly.” The command center houses a call center for round-the-clock assistance, dozens of rescue vehicles, and a surveillance system which controls 190 CCTVs around the city. Meanwhile, the country’s top tycoons vowed to support Duterte’s 10-point economic agenda which would allow growth to be felt by the poor. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> “The business sector will definitely work with the new government and its 10-point agenda. There’s a positive energy in working with the incoming administration,” businessman Manny V. Pangilinan said. Doris Magsaysay-Ho, a shipping magnate who heads the Magsaysay Group of Companies, said they agree with Duterte’s plan to create more jobs for the lower sectors now that the country is improving as a whole. “The key thing is how do we grow as an economy and create employment in the lowest sectors of society, so I think that’s really our focus,” she said. “So the greatest rallying point is to have very clear strategic intent. <ul><li style="text-align: justify;">Future leaders are urged to prioritize the implementation of Reproductive Health Law</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Health advocates say the implementation of RH Law requires strong political will</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Advocates added that the election is an opportunity for the RH Law champions</li> </ul>Future leaders were urged by reproductive health advocates to prioritize the implementation of the Reproductive Health (RH) Law; noting that such law could be implemented successfully if there is strong political will. “The national and local governments should make RH Law implementation a top priority. This means formulating programs that will provide access to RH information and services, including family planning commodities and age-appropriate sex education, and allocating sufficient budget for their implementation,” the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) Executive Director Romeo C. Dongeto said, as quoted by <a href="http://www.mb.com.ph/rh-law-implementation-must-be-prioritized/">Manila Bulletin</a>. The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) Act of 2012 or Republic Act No. 10354 was enacted on December 21, 2012. The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) were signed on March 15, 2013 in Baseco, Tondo. It was noted that the implementation of RH Law needs strong political will of the leaders; considering that the law faces relentless challenge from anti-RH forces, including the Catholic Church. Meanwhile, former health secretary Esperanza Cabral stressed that reproductive health is a fundamental human right that the government should fulfill. “It is primarily the government’s responsibility to uphold RH as part of our country’s commitment to various international agreements recognizing RH as a fundamental human right. Elected officials are bound by law to fulfill this commitment and meaningfully implement the RH Law,” Cabral said. Moreover, Cabral said the 2016 elections is an opportunity for the champions of reproductive health. “The 2016 elections is an opportune time that we use our power to make those who subvert our right to reproductive health like Senator Tito Sotto pay for their crime and vote for candidates who champion RH,” she said. It can be recalled that senators Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto and Loren Legarda were behind the P1 billion cut on the 2016 budget for family planning. “The RH struggle continues until we see the full fruition of our decade-long effort to pass the RH Law. The report, published by audit and tax firm Grant Thornton which is based in the United States, noted that Russia has the highest percentage of women in senior business roles at 45 percent. The report surveyed 5,520 businesses in 36 countries worldwide. Around 25 percent of the world’s businesses currently have women in senior management roles. Looking at the world’s major regional blocs, eastern Europe, which includes countries such as Poland, Estonia, and Latvia, topped the list with more than one-third of management positions filled in by women. “Companies across developed nations have talked the talk on diversity in leadership for long enough. It’s time to put their promises into practice and deliver results,” Grant Thorton International’s global leader for tax services Francesca Lagerberg told <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-womens-day-business-idUSKCN0WA023">Reuters</a>. Meanwhile, Japan was found to have the fewest percentage of women taking on corporate leadership roles at just 7 percent. It is joined by Germany and India at the bottom of the list. While the report pointed out that more women are now taking on management positions all over the world, a lot is still needed to be done as the number of companies with no women in senior management has increased from 32 percent to 33 percent. Moreover, data reveals that almost 4 in 10 or around 39 percent of companies in the G7 economies of Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, had no women in senior management. “Despite considerable efforts by governments and campaigners across the world’s best-developed economies to ensure best practice they continue to lag behind emerging markets in this area.
