Maria’s</b> failed marriage with <b>ex-husband Panfilo Lacson Jr</b>.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">Years later, she finally told people her story.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">In a press conference in Mandaue City, the Kapamilya star <b>admitted </b>that she turned to <b>drugs </b>and alcohol before and after her separation with Lacson.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">Despite her steady rise as a star in the showbiz industry, she admitted that she was empty inside.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">During The Perfect Love Conference held last October at the Convention Hall of J. Centre Mall in Mandaue City, she said that “my life was such a mess na hindi ko alam kung saan ako magsisimula. Wala nang magmamahal sa akin kasi separada na ako, segunda mano.”</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">Jodi and Panfilo had a son, Panfilo III, and was  a witness to the chaos they brought home. This led them to the decision to split up. Jodi blames their immaturity as the root of their failed marriage, saying that they were married at a very young age of 22 years old.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">The marriage lasted for five years.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">During the annulment period, the <b>34-year old actress</b> admitted how empty she felt and how she thought that she was never going to find another partner because she was “<b>damaged goods</b>.”</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">The actress also said that her drug abuse had continued up to  2014, until she finally obliged veteran actress Connie Reyes’ invitation to attend church where she “found Jesus”.</div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">“I have a newfound respect for my body now, and I have to take care of it. Venturanza to reverse the earlier recommendation of the investigating Prosecutor Flordeliza Ramos-Lagasca who found probable cause for the filing of charges of Anti Violence against Women and Children Act against Kristoffer Jay Go.</p><br/><p>At the same time, Lagasca also dismissed the charges filed against Mercado and her mother, Yolanda Mercado.</p><br/><p>“Malinaw sa original resolution ni Fiscal Lagasca, dismissed ang kaso ng child abuse laban sa amin. Malinaw din ang kanyang original recommendation: sampahan ng 5 kaso sa paglabag sa RA 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act) aking dating asawa,” Mercado said in her Facebook post.</p><br/><p>[Fiscal Lagasca’s original resolution was clear, the child abuse case against us is dismissed. It is also clear in her original recommendation: file 5 counts of violations of RA 9262 against my former husband.</p><br/><p>But Venturanza threw out Lagasca’s recommendation and instead sided with Go in filing child abuse charges against Mercado and her mother.</p><br/><p><strong>Fight to the end</strong></p><br/><p>In November 2015, Mercado filed a case against Go for violating RA 9262, citing physical, emotional and economical abuses she suffered at the hands of her estranged husband. Early this year, she managed to seek a temporary protection order against Go.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>But the recent turn of events has dismayed the former Eat Bulaga dancer. Ipaglalaban ko ang hustisya na nararapat para sa akin bilang biktima ng pang-aabuso. Regardless whether they will twist the circumstances, or use their money, our family will fight to the end.]</p><br/><p><strong>March with Gabriela</strong></p><br/><p>On Thursday, July 7, the Gabriela Women’s Party marched with Mercado to the Quezon City court to protest the arrest warrant issued against the latter, and to support her in her legal battle against Go.</p><br/><p>“It is an outrage that the courts are now party to the anguish that victims of violence and their families are subjected to. We join Sugar Mercado and her family in standing up against this injustice,” said Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas on the group’s <a href="https://www.facebook.com/GabrielaWomensParty/"><strong>Facebook</strong></a> account.</p><br/><p>Brosas added the courts clearly erred in reversing Prosecutor Lagasca’s early ruling.
