Some local governments have even pushed them inland, away from their historic dwelling by or on the sea,” Cruz-Angeles wrote.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>The lawyer added that the Constitution and the Indigenous People’s Right Act or IPRA law articulate the rights to which these communities are entitled, “precisely to protect them from the lack of understanding that is so pervasive nowadays.”</p><br/><p>“Their own self characterization sometimes does rub off on us and we look down on them. I was preparing to support the Bicolana from Masbate – Kisses – but now my heart breaks for Rita. PBB must be unequivocal against incipient discrimination, subsconscious racism and the bullying it engenders in any contour and complexion, only made grievous by its grand display to a national audience [especially] to its target segment – the youth whose moral judgment is just forming,”</em> Salceda wrote in his post.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>In disclosing his opinion on the matter, Salceda further noted : “<em>From the start, PBB should have been structured to prevent its occurrence. Treatment of indigenous peoples is too delicate for a ‘role playing-cum-confession room’ context. Geronimo through MSU Tawi-Tawi professor <a href="https://www.facebook.com/basil.sali"><strong>Basil Sali</strong></a>.</p><br/><p>On his <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1034302339985568&id=351448724937603&hc_location=ufi"><strong>Facebook</strong></a> post dated June 4, Piñol said he is asking the help of his followers to find Abdella so he can offer him a job once he assumes his post as the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the incoming administration.</p><br/><p>“Many times in the past, I looked at the kids with sunburned golden hair begging in the streets asking myself whether there is a future for them,” Piñol wrote.</p><br/><p>“Reading the story of Roben Abdella, the Badjao kid who graduated Magna Cum Laude, I now believe that there is a way out for them,” the former North Cotabato governor said.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>Once he gets in touch with Abdella, Piñol said, he would like to hire the latter in the DA with a specific task – “to reach out to his fellow Badjaos and help them feel that there is a government which cares for them.”</p><br/><p>“I believe that Roben Abdella could tell me how President Duterte could help lift the Badjaos from poverty and turn them into productive members of their communities,” he added.</p><br/><p>Actually, Piñol revealed, he has already started recruiting young minds from the indigenous tribes in Mindanao including two young accountants from Bilaan and Kaulo, as well as a Muslim Maguindanao woman who will work as one of his undersecretaries.</p><br/><p>He also intends to hire members of the Cordilleran tribes – Igorot, Ifugao or Kalinga – to help him in the agricultural concerns in the Mountain Provinces and Mangyan kids for his program to turn Mindoro Island into a key food production area.</p><br/><p>“Please allow me to give these kids a chance to prove their worth,” he wrote further. “Who knows? She was seen wandering around streets while asking for alms in order to feed her family. Topher Quinto, a professional photographer, was captivated by the physical features of the young woman. He took photos of her as she continues to beg for food or money from any stranger along her way.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p><strong>Hopes</strong></p><br/><p>Earlier, “Badjao girl” who went viral said she hopes that fame will help her and her family climb out of poverty.</p><br/><p>“Masaya lang po ako at nagpapasalamat ako kay Kuya Topher, ako po ang napili niya. Kaya sobra-sobrang pasasalamat ko sa kanya [I am happy and thankful to Kuya Topher for choosing me as his subject. I am really grateful for what he has done],” she said.</p><br/><p>Moreoever, she noted that she wants to be a teacher to help her family.</p><br/><p>“Kaya ko po gustong maging guro, gusto ko pong matulungan ang tulad ng mga kapatid kong bata. Gusto ko rin po sila maipag-aral. At sabi sakin ng tatay ko, gusto niya kong mapag-aral. Kasi kami na lang po ang pag-asa naming magkakapatid [I want to be a teacher because I want to help children, like my younger siblings. I want them to be educated.
