Atilano Fajardo, the killings have deprived those suspected of using and peddling drugs a chance to reform themselves.</p><br/><p>“We believe, especially in the Year of Mercy, that we have a chance of showing our love of God. But because of this there’s no more love because there’s no more life who will ask for forgiveness and mercy,” the <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/798551/church-thou-shall-not-kill">Philippine Daily Inquirer</a> quoted him as saying.</p><br/><p>“We denounce the extrajudicial killings happening in the country, done by men in uniform, by vigilantes and other groups … under the baton of the maestro. We uphold due process of law and the dignity of human life,” he added.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>The Mass will be held on Monday afternoon the same time Duterte will give his first State of the Nation Address. Churchgoers who will attend are encouraged to wear black.</p><br/><p>According to Fajardo, they are inviting the families of the slain suspects and opponents of the killings to attend.</p><br/><p>“There will be talks and forums on the Sixth Commandment and how extrajudicial killings are becoming the new normal. The order was signed by presiding justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang.</p><br/><p>The court ordered the Bureau of Immigration to prevent the Binays from leaving the country as well as several former Makati City Hall employees who are their co-accused.</p><br/><p>On July 14, the Office of the Ombudsman formally filed before the Sandiganbayan several criminal charges against the former vice president in connection with the anomalous construction of the Makati City Hall Building II.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>The former vice president was the incumbent mayor of Makati City during the first three of five construction phases of the controversial building. Binay Jr. continued the remaining phases of the building construction when took over his father’s position in 2010.</p><br/><p>The Ombudsman found probable cause to file the criminal charges against Binay in October of last year, but deferred the filing of cases due to his immunity from suit during that time. Under the Constitution, impeachable officials such as the President, Vice President and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court cannot be charged in court while they are still holding the position.</p><br/><p>Binay’s term as Vice President of the country ended last June 30.</p><br/><p>Binay’s lawyer, Atty. Daniel Subido said the HDO is a “necessary consequence of the mere filing of an information in the Sandiganbayan. It is applicable to all.”</p><br/><p>“However, it has no bearing at all on the merits of the case. Just before, then I will take my oath of office. Then I will go nationwide on TV and then I will just spell out my governance in five minutes,” Duterte was quoted in an early interview.</p><br/><p>On the other hand, Robredo, who came from Duterte’s rival camp – Liberal Party (LP) – said she wants to be sworn in by the barangay captain of the “smallest, farthest and poorest” barangay in her home province.</p><br/><p>“The ceremony will be conducted in Metro Manila, where Vice President-elect Leni Robredo wishes to be sworn in by Capt. Ronaldo D. Coner of Brgy. Punta Tarawal, Calabanga, the smallest, farthest and poorest barangay in Camarines Sur,” Dy said.</p><br/><p>However, Robredo’s camp did not reveal the exact location where the ceremony will be taking place.</p><br/><p>Robredo’s fate remains in limbo after her political organization, LP, failed to submit to the Commission on Election (Comelec) its statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) in time.</p><br/><p>Her lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, however, argued, this could not hinder Robredo from assuming her office in June 30 since the SOCE will be submitted before she takes her oath of office. I’d be very surprised if it doesn’t at some stage. Iko-course through niya through state-owned stations ‘yung press releases, ‘yung mga interviews [There will be no press con for now so there will be no mistake…. He will just course press releases and interviews to state-owned stations],” said Go.</p><br/><p>Duterte has been under fire in the past days because of the statements he made about the press people. For instance, when he said that some journalists who were killed asked for it because they were corrupt.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>The international media groups immediately joined the condemnation of Duterte’s statement that many journalists have been killed in the country because they were corrupt and those who have done wrong are not exempt from assassination.</p><br/><p>The <em>Reporters Without Borders</em> urged the Philippine media to boycott the elected president’s news conferences until he issues a formal public apology.</p><br/><p>The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said the remarks “apparently excusing extrajudicial killings threaten to make the Philippines into a killing field for journalists.”</p><br/><p>Furthermore, the International Federation of Journalists stressed that the Philippines has been the second-deadliest country for journalists since 1990; behind only war-torn Iraq. <ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The United States and India are planning to hold joint naval operations in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea</strong></li><br/><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The move is likely to anger China, India’s economic rival in Asia</strong></li><br/><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Both countries have expressed support to freedom of navigation in international waters</strong></li><br/></ul><p style="text-align: justify;">In what could be seen as the biggest challenge yet to China’s claim of absolute sovereignty over disputed waters, the United States and India is seriously considering plan to hold a joint maritime patrol in the West Philippines Sea/ South China Sea.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">A US Defense official told <em><strong><a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-southchinasea-india-usa-idUSKCN0VJ0AA">Reuters</a></strong></em> that both countries have held talks about conducting naval operations together which will likely take place within a year.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">While it is expected that such patrols will concentrate mainly in the Indian Ocean, there is a big possibility that the South China Sea will be included in the plan as part of India’s goal to play a major role in Asia’s balance of power.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">US and India have no claim in the contested waterways, but both countries have expressed support to a united stand among Asian nations in maintaining the freedom of navigation and overflight on what is generally considered as part of international waters.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">The plan is expected to further incense China whose claim is being contested by its smaller neighbors; foremost of which are Vietnam and the Philippines.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">India’s position to support US in its diplomatic skirmishes with China over territorial conflict in Asia-Pacific was made clear during President Barack Obama’s visit to the country in January.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">A source from the Indian government told Reuters the subject was also raised when Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar visited the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii in December.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“It was a broad discussion, it was about the potential for joint patrols,” Reuters quoted the source as saying.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">India has been in a long-running territorial land border dispute with China but remains cautious on antagonizing its more powerful regional rival and neighbor.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">Aside from India, the Philippines is also seeking to hold joint maritime patrol with US in the West Philippine Sea; a scenario that has a much bigger chance of pushing through, according to the US official.</p><br/><p><a href="http://kickerdaily.com/us-india-planning-to-hold-joint-naval-patrol-west-ph-sea/" rel="nofollow">Kicker Daily News</a></p>
