That’s why when we focused our resources and attention on the drug problem, crimes also dropped,” the <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/805919/bato-to-gambling-lords-your-days-numbered">Philippine Daily Inquirer</a> quoted him as saying.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>Dela Rosa added that they will intensify their campaign against illegal drugs even as he reiterated the PNP’s respect for the law and human rights.</p><br/><p>“This campaign is just starting,” he said. “Let us continue with our campaign as long as what we are doing is in compliance with the law and respect of human rights.”</p><br/><p>After the drug lords, Dela Rosa said the government would go after the gambling lords next.</p><br/><p>“Their days are numbered,” he said.</p><br/><p>According to PNP-10 spokesperson Supt. Panfilo Lacson downplayed it as bravado and said no such order exists.</p><br/><p>“There’s no such thing. That was just bravado in the statement, because as a law enforcement officer, General Dela Rosa knows there’s no such thing as a ‘shoot-on-sight’ or ‘shoot-to-kill’”, he told the <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/802736/lacson-warns-cops-shoot-on-sight-order-is-murder">Philippine Daily Inquirer</a>.</p><br/><p>Lacson, who also headed the PNP, said such an order was illegal because it would allow policemen to kill someone on sight and not because they were defending themselves.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>“If they do that, then that would clearly be murder. Because shoot on sight means just because you suspect someone or the President declared that someone is a drug lord and you will kill him. That’s a violation of the law,” he said.</p><br/><p>The senator pointed out that under the law, a policeman— or anyone for that matter —can kill only in the act of self-defense.</p><br/><p>“If the life of the law enforcement officer or any citizen for that matter is in danger, then self-defense can be used to justify why you killed someone to avoid being killed yourself,” he said.</p><br/><p>Lacson added he knows that Dela Rosa also knows that it can’t be done and may just be using it as a scare tactic.</p><br/><p>“Whatever is the motive, whatever is the reason he said that, that’s for him to say. Bumabalik ang kumpiyansa ng mga tao sa mga pulis,” he told them.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>[You are doing good with Ang Probinsyano. The public’s trust in the police is coming back.]</p><br/><p>At the same time, Dela Rosa also admitted to be fan of the show after he asked Martin the conclusion to some of the latest episode’s cliffhangers. He explained he could not follow the show closely because of time constraints.</p><br/><p>“Hindi ko nga alam kung anong nangyayari eh. Kasi pag-uwi ko tulog. Nahuli na ba si Cesar? Nabuhay na ba si lolo uncle mo?” Dela Rosa asked Martin.</p><br/><p>[I don’t what’s happening, because I sleep when I go home. Has Cesar been captured? Is your lolo uncle alive?]</p><br/><p>Dela Rosa was referring to actor Cesar Montano’s character (Police Inspector Hector Mercurio) who tried to assassinate Martin’s paternal figurehead General Delfin S.
