He played dead as gunman, Omar Mateen, continuously fired at people who were on the floor.

Colon told members of the media that Mateen continued to fire his gun at people in the club who already appeared dead on the floor. He was shot in the leg, his hand, and his hip. He remembered thinking he will die next as Mateen shot a fire near his head. A girl lying next to Colon was shot dead.

“This person had to be heartless, ruthless,” he said. “I don’t know how he could do something like this,” Colon said as he recalled how Mateen calmly shot person after person in different rooms of the club.

Based on the BBC report from the hospital staff, six injured people remain in critical condition after the attack on the Pulse Nightclub. Dr. Michael Cheatham, a trauma surgeon, said he “would not be surprised” if the death toll, which is currently at 49, increased.
