The inter-agency group is called Task Force DILG Inter-Government Operations Network Group or Task Force DIGONG. Digong is President Duterte’s nickname. Task Force DIGONG will be chaired by DILG Secretary and concurrent National Police Commission (Napolcom) chairperson Ismael Sueño, while DILG Undersecretary for Operations Atty. John Castriciones will act as its deputy chair. The primary task of Task Force DIGONG, according to Sueño, is to assist the Napolcom and other relevant government agencies in the investigation of government officials involved in illegal drugs.

“With so many top government officials being linked to illegal drugs, Task Force DIGONG will seek to find the truth so that those who are guilty will face the full force of the law, while those who are innocent will be cleared,” Sueño said in a press release on Wednesday, July 20. The task force, whose members include representatives from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Managemant and Penology, Philippines Public Safety College, Local Government Academy and local government officials, shall gather evidence to be used in the case build-up against erring government officials. The task force, based on the results of its findings, will prepare recommendations that will be forwarded to Napolcom or the appropriate government agency for the filing of administrative and/or criminal charges, if applicable. “The President has imposed a three to six month-deadline against illegal drugs. TF DIGONG will help make this happen through better cooperation among agencies and faster, immediate action,” Sueño said.

Let’s block ads! (Why?) Kicker Daily News

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3942681860132668" data-ad-slot="4831328630" data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

The independent presidential candidate confirmed that her husband, Teodoro Misael Daniel Vera Llamanzares, was an enlisted member of USAF for four years – from 1988 to 1992 – after she was asked by reporters for her reaction to the report by Open Source Investigations that revealed the information online. Camille Elemia of Rappler wrote in her article dated April 7, 2016 that this was the first time Grace Poe mentioned about her husband’s stint in the U.S. military since she declared her intention to run for the presidency. Poe said her husband never concealed the fact that he served in the USAF. “Hindi ‘yun tinatago. Hindi ko alam kung bakit issue yan,” she told reporters during her campaign sortie in Catarman, Northern Samar on Thursday, April 7. [It was not hidden. I don’t know why it is an issue…] Poe said she sees nothing wrong with her husband’s stint with the US military because he did not commit any crime against the Philippines by doing so. She pointed out that even former President Fidel V. Ramos studied in West Point and Roilo Golez, who has served as Congressman for six terms, attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Jun Abaya also studied. Ramos, Golez and Abaya, however, did not serve in the US military. Llamanzares, according to the online check of U.S. Military personnel data made by Rappler, is listed as a “veteran” with the pay grade of E-4, meaning he had the rank of Senior Airman or Sergeant. Kicker Daily News

This was revealed in a forum at the Manila Hotel by President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday, March 30. Speaking before a group of foreign journalist at the Publish Asia Conference, Aquino said China’s assertion of might and rapid militarization of its occupied island in the disputed territory left the Philippines with no choice but to reconsider its policies, such as investing resources to its maritime domain awareness. “We’ve had to accelerate the modernization of our armed forces for self-defense need,” Aquino said. “We might have to undergo various aspects of our own military capabilities that have never been part of our needs.” The president added: “For instance, we are a natural transit point into the Pacific, and we are studying whether or not we do need a submarine force.” However, Aquino maintains the Philippines would like to maintain its stand as an advocate of peace and would continue to seek peaceful resolution to the raging territorial dispute. Aquino stressed it’s not only the Philippines, but also the rest of the nation-claimants in the region, which recognizes that nobody stands to gain in war, and in fact, the world stands to lose if it goes to war. “The Philippines, for instance, renounces war as an instrument of foreign policy. That is embedded in our Constitution,” he pointed out. The country has never had a submarine force in the past and largely rely on hand-me-down equipment from the United States and its other allies in the region like Japan and Australia. Nevertheless, the country, despite its meager resources, managed to slowly build up its defense assets over the past five years, a feat that has never been achieved in past administrations. However, Aquino emphasized the need for a poor country like the Philippines to set its priorities straight. “We have no illusions of trying to match or trying to engage everybody in an arms race or a military build-up,” the President added. “We would rather put our resources to the classical economic argument of the butter side than the gun side of choosing where to put our resources in.” Kicker Daily News

Lori Robinson, commander of the Pacific Air Forces
CANBERRA, Australia – The United States Air Force will continue to fly over the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea despite the apparent build-up of Chinese artillery in the disputed islands; this was assured by a ranking USAF officer on March 8. General Lori Robinson, the commander of the Pacific Air Forces, told reporters in Canberra, Australia on Tuesday that the USAF will not stop sending daily missions over the contested waterways; even as both Washington and Beijing are in discussion to avoid any ‘miscalculation’ that could lead to more conflict. She also urged all other nations to continue challenging China’s increasing assertion of so-called absolute sovereignty by exercising freedom of navigation over what is generally considered part of international waters and airspace, through which around US$ 5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year. “We’ve watched the increased military capability on those islands, whether it’s the fighters, whether it’s the missiles or the 10,000-foot runways,” General Robinson said; referring to China’s recent deployment of surface-to-air missile system and fighter jets to Woody Island — a feature that is part of Paracels’ chain off the coast of Vietnam. “We will continue to do as we’ve always done, and that is fly and sail in international airspace in accordance to international rules and norms,” the Air Force official stressed. However, Robinson declined to elaborate how the US will respond in the event its jets are shot down by Chinese troops. On the possibility of a miscalculation, Robinson explained that Washington and Bejing has signed an agreement in September last year on air-to-air rules of behavior in international airspace and discussions are in progress. “That has allowed us to have continuous dialogue with the Chinese about how to conduct safe intercepts and intercepts in accordance with international rules and norms,” she said. She further bared plan on an increased military presence in the Asia-Pacific region by discussing with Australian counterparts to rotate USAF bombers through its Australian air force bases at Darwin and Tindal. Kicker Daily News

A ‘small armada’ that include the John C. Stennis carrier (CVN-74), two destroyers, two cruisers and the 7th Fleet flagship has been deployed to the contested waterways several days ago and is meant as US’ latest ‘show of force’ in the face of China’s militarization of island-features currently under its control. A Navy Times report dated Wednesday, March 3, said the carrier strike group has sailed into the disputed waters in ‘recent days’ and should send a clear signal to China and to other nation-claimants. The Stennis , a nuclear-powered Nimitz-class supercarrier with more or less 7,000 crew, was dispatched from Washington state last January 15 and is joined by cruisers Antietam and Mobile Bay, destroyers Chung-Hoon and Stockdale, and the Japan-based 7th Fleet command ship Blue Ridge. The ships arrived in the Western Pacific on February 4. Early this week, US Defense Secretary Ash Carter issued a strongly-worded warning against China’s militarization scheme in the West Philippine Sea. “Specific actions will have specific consequences. These activities have the potential to increase the risk of miscalculation or conflict among claimant states,” said Carter during a speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. But a Pacific Fleet official downplayed the recent deployment of Stennis in the region as part of its ‘routine patrol.’ “Our ships and aircraft operate routinely throughout the Western Pacific — including the South China Sea — and have for decades,” said fleet spokesman Cmdr. Clay Doss. In October last year, the US Navy’s USS Lassen, a guided-missile destroyer, sailed within 12 nautical miles of Spratlys; prompting an angry response from Beijing which described Washington’s move as ‘provocative’ and ‘irresponsible’. Kicker Daily News

US Army’s Delta Force unleashed in Iraq to ‘accelerate’ campaign vs ISIS – Report

A Pentagon official confirmed that the elite Delta Force has been deployed in Iraq

The EFT’s (Expeditionary Targeting Force) mission is to capture or kill top ISIS commanders

Pentagon declared that the momentum is now in the US’s side in its fight against ISIS

The United States Army’s feared Delta Force has been sent to Iraq “to target, capture or kill top Islamic State (ISIS) operatives; this was confirmed by higly-placed Pentagon sources to CNN. The Army’s elite and primary counter-terrorism unit has reportedly spent several weeks already in the war-torn Middle East country for pre-covert operation activities like setting up safe houses, establishing intelligence network and coordinating with anti-ISIS militia such as the Permesga Kurdish units. But while Pentagon and military officials refused to go into details, Defense Secretary Ash Carter’s remarks during a press briefing seemed to confirm so. “The only thing I’ll say is the EFT (Expeditionary Targeting Force) is in position, it is having an effect and operating, and I expect it to be a very effective part of our acceleration campaign,” Carter was quoted as saying early this week. Carter said the force will “conduct raids, seize places and people, and free ISIS-held hostages and prisoners” and would cause ISIS “to fear that anywhere, anytime, it may struck.” A US official, who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity, believes that Carter’s statement reflects that Delta Force has been in operation in Iraq. The Delta Force will most likely use the same strategy it employed in Syria and Afghanistan: Gather sufficient intelligence before conducting raids on ISIS hideouts, then using the information to swiftly attack other targets. It was the same strategy used which led to the killing of ISIS commander Abu Sayaff and the capture of his wife in Syria in May last year. In December, Carter hinted of such operation in Iraq; saying a specialized expeditionary targeting force has been sent to conduct “raids and intelligence gathering missions.” He further noted that the same operation could be expanded further to Syria but declined to give a timeline. On Monday, the Pentagon official declared that the “momentum is now on our side”; referring to the US’ ongoing fight against the Islamic State in the Middle East.
