In his final campaign rally held at the Luneta Park in Manila, the tough-talking mayor reiterated his promise to kill criminals – even in front of his human rights critics. “I will butcher criminals in front of them if they want,” he told a crowd of an estimated 600,000 supporters. But he also vowed to give Filipinos a comfortable life and suppress the illegal drugs menace, if elected. He promised the Filipinos could look forward to “a comfortable life under me… comfortable because there will not be too much crime. The new study, which included more than 300,000 people, found out that long nap during daytime is not as healthy as it was perceived as people who tend to do this got an increased tendency to develop metabolic syndromes including obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Lizzie Parry mentioned in her article for <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3506708/Could-enjoying-nap-KILL-Sleeping-40-minutes-day-increases-risk-heart-disease.html">Mail Online</a> published on March 25 that the research was a compilation from the analysis of 21 observational studies outlining 307,237 people’s collective data. The research was presented at the American College of Cardiology’s annual conference and said that regular naps are healthy and harmless, but once it goes longer than 40 minutes, it can link to a number of health conditions which result in premature death. The participants were asked if they have a habit of taking a daytime nap then crossed referenced the replies with the data from their medical history, including a history of obesity, diabetes or metabolic syndrome. The study analyzed the correlation between the two and found out that if the naps lasted longer than 40 minutes, the relationship exists. However, if naps were shorter, this link was not noticed. An article by Siobhan Fenton for the <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/afternoon-naps-linked-to-premature-death-research-suggests-a6954291.html">Independent</a> published on March 27 said the researchers explained that during long naps, the body assumes that it is about to enter deep sleep and finds its metabolic cycle unsettled after waking up. As for short naps, the body does not enter a deep sleep phase and will not experience this jolt. “Taking naps is widely prevalent around the world. So clarifying the relationship between naps and metabolic disease might offer a new strategy of treatment, especially as metabolic disease has been increasing steadily all over the world,” said Dr. Tomohide Tamada, the lead author of the study who is a Ph.D. diabetologist at the University of Tokyo. “Sleep is an important component of our healthy lifestyle, as well as diet and exercise. Mai Peralta mentioned in her article for <a href="http://www.parentherald.com/articles/31587/20160325/pregnant-women-avoid-coffee-new-study-links-caffeine-miscarriage-risk.htm">Parent Herald</a> published on March 25 that the study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that couples who drink more than two caffeinated beverages daily in the weeks before conception might increase the risk of woman’s miscarriage. Researchers from the Ohio State University found out that women who drink more than two daily caffeinated beverages during the first seven weeks of pregnancy manifest an increased miscarriage risk. The previous research derived similar results; however, caffeine was not singled out as a particular culprit. “Our findings provide useful information for couples who are planning a pregnancy and who would like to minimize their risk of early pregnancy loss,” first study author Dr. Germaine Buck Louis said. Louis is the director of the Division of Intramural Population Health Research at NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The research also found out that daily multivitamins before conception plays a beneficial part as women who took it during early pregnancy were less likely to miscarry than women who did not. An article by Rhodi Lee for <a href="http://www.techtimes.com/articles/144067/20160325/coffee-and-pregnancy-couples-high-caffeine-intake-linked-to-higher-miscarriage-risk.htm">Tech Times</a> published on March 25 said that researchers analyzed the lifestyle factors among 344 couples from the weeks before they conceived through the seventh week of pregnancy. Using a statistical concept called hazard ratio, the researchers found out that miscarriage was associated with females age 35 and above, and was about twice the miscarriage risk of younger women. Male and female consumption of two caffeinated beverages daily was also linked with a heightened hazard ratio. “Our findings also indicate that the male partner matters, too. Male preconception consumption of caffeinated beverages was just as strongly associated with pregnancy loss as females’,” Dr. Buck Louis said. An article by <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/03/25/couples-caffeine-consumption-may-increase-miscarriage-risk-study-suggests.html">Fox News</a> published on March 25 said that the research also suggested a 55 percent reduction in risk for pregnancy loss among women who took a daily multivitamin during the preconception period. The authors noted that previous studies have shown that increased vitamin B6 and folic acid intake can reduce miscarriage risk. According to a new research published in the journal <a href="http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195666316300459">Appetite</a>, people who munched on chocolate at least once a week have their memory and abstract thinking improved. Merrill Elias, a psychologist who in the 1970s began studying the cognitive abilities of more than 1,000 people in the state of New York, said that there is a link between blood pressure and cognitive performance. An article by <a href="http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/foodanddrink/chocolate-can-make-you-smarter-new-study-suggests-a3198606.html">Evening Standard</a> published on March 8 said that Elias continued to observe and record his findings for decades and eventually expanding the Maine-Syracuse Longitudinal Study (MSLS) on cardiovascular risk factors. The research was done in “waves” which is done every five years. The researcher said that the “significant positive associations” was found between chocolate consumption and cognitive performance of the participants. It was observed that cognitive performance remained constant even after adjusting variables such as age, cardiovascular risks and dietary habits. Roberto A.
