Based on its <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3b9qPFV1cRDVkFXamRzQTJWUms/view">latest survey</a> conducted between April 26 to 29, and released on May 4 or five days away from the election, Pulse Asia president Ronald Holmes noted that up to 1 in every 4 voters can become swing votes, as they make their decision on election day itself. “Maaaring magbago pa. Maaaring mag-swing pa ang mga botante. Malaki ang populasyon na ito at iyong swing na iyan, maaaring maka-impluwensiya doon sa pinal na resulta ng eleksyon. [This can possibly change. The voters can possibly swing. It is a big population and these swing votes can affect the final result of the election],” Holmes told <a href="http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/565199/news/nation/25-of-survey-respondents-may-still-change-their-mind-pulse-asia">GMA News</a>. Among those included in the 25 percent are those who have indicated that they are definitely open to change their minds on election day itself, as well as the chunk of undecided voters who have not made any choice at the moment. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> “Kapag binuo mo ang grupo na iyan, iyan ang tinatawag na one-fourth na maaring mag-shift. During the last presidential polls held in 2010, exit polls conducted by Pulse Asia revealed that up to 15 percent of voters said they only made up their minds as to whom to vote for on the election day itself. Thus, the final days of the campaign becomes a crucial period for candidates to send their exact message across in convincing both undecided voters and those open to switching sides. “Meron isang matinding mensahe silang dapat paratingin. Manny Pacquiao and former Akbayan Risa Hontiveros are the two of the four newcomers who has the bigger chance of landing in the Senate’s ‘Magic Circle’; according to the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by the <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/halalan2016/nation/05/03/16/5-newcomers-in-senate-in-new-abs-cbn-pulse-asia-survey">ABS-CBN</a> Network. The other two are former TESDA chief Joel Villanueva and former Justice Secretary Leila de Lima. Another newbie – Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian – is hanging on at 13th place. Apparently, Pacquiao, who belongs to the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), has survived the controversy over his homophobic slur that saw his ratings go down below the winning circle. He is now in sixth place in the latest survey. Hontiveros, who is running under the Liberal Party (LP) slate, also continues to soar after languishing in 12th-14th place at the start of the official campaign period. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> Except for the five newbies, the top 12 list is still dominated by incumbent and returning senators; only switching places from time to time. Senate President Franklin Drilon topped the latest Pulse Asia survey and has overtaken Senator Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto who dropped to second place. The pre-election poll was conducted between April 24 and 29 among 4,000 respondents nationwide and has a national margin of error of 1.5%. For the vice presidential race, Camarines Sur Leni Robredo shoots to the top with 30%, overtaking Senator Bongbong Marcos who got 28%. The Pulse Asia poll commissioned by ABS-CBN and released on Tuesday, March 22 had Poe still the frontrunner with 26 percent. However, she is only 1 percentage point ahead of Duterte who got 25 percent. Binay came in third with 22 percent. The poll had a bigger sampling size of 4,000 respondents and a smaller margin of error of +/- 1.5 percent, technically making Poe and Duterte ‘statistically tied’ on top. But Binay’s spokesperson Rico Quicho pointed out the vice president is also ‘statistically tied’ with his two rivals on top. “The presidential race continues to be tight. If you look at the margin of error, lahat ay [all of them are in a] statistical tie,” <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/775634/binay-camp-claims-bet-in-statistical-tie-with-poe-duterte-in-poll#ixzz43cBlQrNJ">Inquirer</a>’s Marc Jayson Cayabyab quoted Quicho as saying. Quicho, nevertheless, acknowledged it would be a challenge for their group to work harder in reaching out to the people to regain whatever Binay lost in ratings. In the survey conducted by Pulse Asia from March 1 to 6, Escudero and Marcos remained the top contenders with 25%  and 22%, respectively. But unlike Robredo, Escudero lost a point while Marcos’ numbers dipped by 4 points from last month’s survey where they are tied at 26% apiece. We are comfortable where we are at this stage of the campaign period,” he told the <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/773820/duterte-camp-confident-bet-will-emerge-victorious-in-presidential-race">Philippine Daily Inquirer</a>. Duterte garnered 24 percent of voters’ preference among 2,600 participants in the poll which was conducted from March 1 to 6. In front of him was Sen. Grace Poe who got 28 percent. Binay meanwhile figured in a statistical tie with Mar Roxas for third place after they garnered a score of 21 percent and 20 percent respectively. Feisty senator Miriam Defensor Santiago finished dead last with only three percent. Poe got 26 percent votes from the respondents, while Binay was a close second with 24 percent. Pulse Asia, however, said the 2-point difference between the two frontrunners made them ‘statistically tied’ at the top. Not far behind is Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who is also 2 points behind Binay with 22 percent. He is followed by former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas with 19 percent and Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago with 3 percent. Other candidates included in the list – Roy Señeres, Mel Mendoza and Dante Valencia – all got below 1 percent. Vice presidential race In the race for the vice presidency, Senators Francis Escudero and Bongbong Marcos are neck-and-neck at the top; both getting 26 percent of the votes. In third place is Camarines Sur representative and Liberal Party (LP) bet Leni Robredo with 18 percent. She is followed by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano with 13 percent, Senator Gringo Honasan with 6 percent, and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with 3 percent. Asked with the question “If your chosen candidate does not pursue his/her candidacy fro whatever reason, whom among the remaining people would you vote for as PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES if the 2016 election were to be held today?”, respondents still chose Poe as the top pick with 29 percent. Poe is followed by Binay (22 %), Roxas (15%), Duterte (12 %) and Santiago (8%). Escudero is also the top second choice for vice president with 27 %; followed by Marcos (17%), Cayetano (16%), Robredo (12%), Honasan (8%) and Trillanes (8%). Geographical areas Poe dominated two of the 4  geographical areas, except in Visayas where she placed second with 22 % to Roxas’ 33%; and in Mindanao trailing behind Duterte  (47%) and Roxas (17%) with only 16%. She got 30% in NCR and 32 % in Balance of Luzon. On the other hand, Binay, while still registering strong numbers, remains a runner up to Poe in NCR (26%) and Balance of Luzon (30%). He is third behind Roxas and Poe in Visayas with only 20%; and tied at third with Poe behind Duterte and Roxas in Mindanao with 16%. Social classes Among the social classes, Duterte was the most popular among the ABC Class with 27%; while Poe leads in Class D (26%)  and E (27%). Binay, who used to be very popular among Class E, was tied with Roxas and relegated to second place with 23%. But we have also seen where we are weak and need to catch up, as well as recognize, where we are making great nowadays.” “We will remain remain vigilant and be on the lookout and will continue to work very hard for the victory of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the May 2016 presidential elections,” he added. Vice President Jejomar Binay was the biggest winner in the latest survey; jumping from his previous score to statistically tie Sen. Grace Poe for first place.
