The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU) and University of Santo Tomas  (UST) remained in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings. <div readability="7.2899408284024"><a href="http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/569963/news/nation/8-phl-universities-listed-among-asia-s-best">GMA News Online</a> said in a story that these top Philippine schools were among the ranks of other Asian international institutions that belonged to the 70 to 200 rankings.</div> UP, the country’s premiere national university, scored the highest spot among these local schools by placing 70th. While ADMU ranked 99th, an improvement from its place at 114 last year. DLSU, on the other hand, is now at the 143rd place from ranking at 183rd in 2015. It had the biggest improvement among the local universities that belonged in the list. Meanwhile, UST, the only Philippine school that got a four-star rating, placed 157th, 14 points lower from where it was last year. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> Other schools outside Metro Manila also belonged to the list. Siliman University, Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro, and Ateneo de Davao University were in between the 250-300 ranking while University of San Carlos in Cebu was in the 301-350 bracket. The National University of Singapore (NUS) remained to be the top school among the 350 Asian universities surveyed. It has claimed the spot for three consecutive years sice it consistently got a perfect rating of 100%. Following NUS is the University of Hong Kong  and another Singaporean school, Nanyang Technological University. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Tsinghua Univeristy grabbed the 4th and 5th spot. Other schools that belonged to the top 10 were: Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University and Seoul National University. The schools will be used by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as voting centers in the upcoming May 9 elections. As mentioned in John Unson’s article for <a href="http://bilangpilipino.philstar.com/news/2016/04/29/1577935/6-maguindanao-schools-bombed">Philstar</a>, Sultan Mastura municipal police Senior Inspector Wendylyn Banico said the bombings could be related to the upcoming elections, although he said Sultan Mastura was not included in the Comelec, Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines’ identified areas of immediate concern in Maguindanao. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> Based on the shrapnel recovered from the blast sites, Sr. Insp. Banico said the armed men appeared to have used 40-millimeter grenade projectiles and anti-tank rockets. Investigators also found bullet holes on the concrete walls of the schools they believed were caused by M-16 Armalite rifles. The damaged schools are Tapayan Central School, the Dagurungan Elementary School, the Tuka Elementary School, the Darping Elementary School, the Tareken Primary School and the Simuay Seashore Elementary School, all located southwest of Sultan Mastura. “We are still investigating as to the real motive, we can only surmise at this time that it could be election-related,” Banico told reporters. Meanwhile, a Comelec official said the poll body en banc will decide where to transfer the clustered polling precincts assigned to the affected schools. Bongbong Marcos’ attempt at revising the history and effects of martial law. In its statement “CEAP Supports Call Against Marcosian Snares and Imeldific Lies,” the group’s trustees denounced the younger Marcos for trying “to canonize his father’s regime.” “The Trustees of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, representing the 1,425 CEAP member-schools, colleges, and universities, support the faculty of the Ateneo de Manila University in their call against the attempt of Ferdinand Marcos Jr to canonize the harrowing horrors of martial rule,” <a href="http://www.rappler.com/move-ph/125012-catholic-educational-association-philippines-admu-bongbong-marcos">Rappler </a>quoted CEAP as saying. “With the same fervor, we cry our hearts out, ‘Never Again!’” At the same time, the group also expressed worry that little is being done to counter the tide of revisionism being perpetuated by loyalists among the youth. “It seems we have been remiss in instilling in the youth’s consciousness about the regime’s brutal savagery. Instead they have been drowned out by the Marcosian snares and the Imeldific lies,” they said. Earlier, the presidents of the five Ateneo universities joined faculty members in condemning Marcos for his revisionist attempt and unapologetic stance on martial law. “In response to Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Romualdez Marcos Jr’s call that teachers and students of history should make a judgment about the Marcos administration, we, the undersigned members of the Ateneo de Manila community, vehemently oppose and condemn the ongoing willful distortion of our history,” the original statement read. “We deplore the shameless refusal to acknowledge the crimes of the martial law regime. The Syrian town of Azaz took the brunt of the airstrikes where a children’s hospital and a nearby school were hit. At least fourteen people, including children were killed when missiles slammed the school sheltering families fleeing the offensive and a children’s hospital. “We have been moving scores of screaming children from the hospital,” Juma Rahal, a medic, said. A town resident said another refugee camp south of Azaz and a convoy of trucks were hit by bombs. A <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/syria-msf-hospital-bombing-1.3448514">CBC News</a> article dated February 15, 2016 said UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq quoted UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon as saying that the attacks were “blatant violations of international laws” that are further degrading an already devastated health care system and preventing access to education in Syria.” Ban Ki-Moon said the airstrikes cast a shadow on commitments made by several nations to end hostilities in Syria within a week at a conference held in Munich last February 11. The French President of Doctors Without Borders, also known as MSF or Medicins Sans Frontieres, blamed Russia for the airstrikes. Mego Terzian, president of Doctors Without Borders in France, said: “The author of the strike is clearly either the government or Russia”; adding that it’s not the first time MSF facilities in Syria had been attacked. He said missiles hit another hospital in the town of Marat Numan in Idlib province, in north western Syria. “There were at least seven deaths among the personnel and the patients, and at least eight MSF personnel have disappeared, and we don’t know if they are alive,” Terzian said. Traveling Museum visits schools around Metro Manila

<ul><li>The Travelling Museum features the fossils of the oldest humans who settled outside Africa</li> <li>The fossils were discovered in Dmanisi, Georgia</li> <li>The organization will bring the ancient artifacts to seven schools in Metro Manila</li> </ul>In order to help literally bring knowledge and information about our human past to students and the youth, the Traveling Museum Philippines is set to hold an exhibit on ancient human ancestors that will be visiting different universities in Metro Manila. The exhibit titled The Journey of Mankind: First Humans Out of Africa—The Hominids of Dmanisi, Georgia will feature fossils and artifacts from ancient human species called Homo erectus that became the very first ones to venture out of the African continent. Among the items to be featured include three well-preserved human skulls found in Dmanisi, Georgia that are believed to belong to the very first humans outside of Africa dating to 1.8 million years ago, as well as fossils of extinct animals that lived during that era such as the saber-tooth cat, ancient wolf Canis etruscus, and an ancient elephant. Tools used by the ancient humans are also included in the exhibit. The exhibit aims to explain how our human ancestors adapted when they first left Africa. Dr. David Lordkipanidze, the Director-General of the Georgian National Museum who led the expedition, told <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/v1/02/09/16/traveling-museum-comes-to-ph">ABS-CBN News</a> that the discovery in Georgia provides answers to significant questions in human history. The event kicked off at the Ateneo de Manila University where Lordkipanidze delivered a lecture on The First Humans in Eurasia. The exhibit will remain in the school until March 4 before the artifacts will continue on its tour to Jose Rizal University from March 14 to April 6. After that, the Travelling Museum will move to the University of Santo Tomas from April 25 to May 28 then to the University of the East from June 27 to July 22. It will then transfer to the University of the Philippines Diliman from August 2 to 26 before the tour will culminate at the De LaSalle University from September 12 to October 14.
