According to Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, the speech — which was personally written by the President himself — was so powerful, it made him cry, as per an article published by <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/798607/andanar-dutertes-sona-speech-made-me-cry">Inquirer</a>.</p><br/><p>“When I read the speech, ayaw ko pong mag-exaggerate pero [I don’t want to exaggerate but] the first time I read the speech, it made me cry,” Andanar revealed.</p><br/><p>He added: “Ganoon po kaganda, ganoon po ka makabagbag-damdamin iyong speech ng Pangulo natin.”</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>[The President’s speech is that beautiful and heart-rending.]</p><br/><p>“It’s a call to unity, a call to rise to the occasion, a call to be more positive about the country, a call to make this nation great once more. In fact, once you listen to this speech, it will awaken the patriotic spirit of every Filipino,” Andanar said in a phone interview with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHXd_OVi5OU">ANC News Now</a>.</p><br/><p>He shared that the President’s speech will last at least 38 minutes; not taking into account the President’s adlibs.</p><br/><p>In his speech, Duterte will tackle his legislative agenda for the next six years based on inputs from different agencies, including the need for the Constitution’s amendment to accommodate federalism, as well as policies on peace and order and his campaign against illegal drugs. In the video, the girl guides his father as they make their way to copra farm where he would climbs coconut trees for living. </div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">Nelson Pepe, also known as “<b>Dodong</b>“, earns around P300 a day by climbing almost 60 coconut trees with P5 pesos per tree. Despite his disability, he still manages to this everyday just so he can provide for his family. But to do this, he still need help and her daughter “Jenny” is doing a good job on it. This touched the hearts of the netizens until it reached Rated K, an evening program in ABS-CBN hosted by <b>Korina Sanchez</b>. </div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><br/><div style="text-align: justify;">The Rated K team went to Sogod, Sorsogon to pay a visit to the family. Firstly, they brought him to Manila to have his eyes checked. Unfortunately, the doctors said that he might no be able to regain eyesight due to retinal detachment and <b>retinitis pigmentosa</b>. According to the doctors, this is somehow hereditary. And so, Rated K decided to have Jenny checked-up as well. This is the caption of the viral video posted by the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/CARMMAPH/">Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang (CARMMA)</a> on their Facebook page on May 3.</p><br/><p>According to an article by <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/nation/05/04/16/watch-when-millennials-meet-martial-law-victims">ABS-CBN News</a>, the video, titled ‘Millennials for Martial Law’, started with 8 young voters between the ages 19 to 22; introducing themselves to older people whom they didn’t expect were human rights victims during the Martial Law. These millennials are all first time voters and were not yet born when Martial Law was declared during Ferdinand Marcos’ regime in 1972.</p><br/><p>They were initially asked by their interviewers what they think about the effects of the Martial Law years.</p><br/><p>The millennials illustrated the Martial Law era as the golden years in our country’s history; saying it was “a good time for the Philippines” when “the law was followed and people were disciplined”. Some described it as “good for our country” and “the government was respectable because of Marcos” – likening his being ‘strict’ to a ‘parent’s love’.  Their feedback were all in favor of Martial Law as per their perceptions.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>The interviewers then introduced themselves and revealed they were human rights violations victims during Marcos’ regime. The millennials’ faces immediately dropped as shock takes over.</p><br/><p>The Martial Law victims Danilo dela Fuente, Lourdes Victoriano, Marie Maiso, and Rodel Briones all shared the different horrors they experienced and suffered through during the Martial Law. They recounted tales of detainment, rape, torture, and various physical and verbal abuses.</p><br/><p>Talking about their painful experiences left the millennials teary-eyed and guilty.</p><br/><p>One of the young voters said: “It’s overwhelming to discover what happened during the Martial Law.”</p><br/><p>The 20-year-old girl cried and asked if she could give Dela Fuente a hug.</p><br/><p>Another one of the millennials said: “They taught us differently in school.”</p><br/><p>At the end of the video, CARMMA stressed that the truth behind Martial Law is kept hidden to this day and not being taught in schools.
