Let’s just surrender,” the <a href="http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/802639/leyte-mayors-tearful-plea-to-son-lets-surrender">Philippine Daily Inquirer</a> quoted the mayor of Albuera town in Leyte as saying during a press conference in Camp Crame on Wednesday. “At least the President and Philippine National Police chief Ronald de la Rosa could help us. I’m hoping that if you surrender, they will help you.”</p><br/><p>The younger Espinosa was confirmed as having flown to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia aboard Cebu Pacific Flight 5J501 last June 21. He has an outstanding arrest warrant in connection with his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade; with authorities tagging him as one of the biggest drug lords in Eastern Visayas.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>While admitting that his son was involved in illegal drugs, the older Espinosa himself denied being a drug dealer and said he did not know convicted drug lord Peter Co who was identified as one of his son’s suppliers.</p><br/><p>“I don’t know him. I only saw him on television. I only heard Kerwin could be getting his drug supply from NBP through Peter Co,” he said.</p><br/><p>Espinosa also denied using drug money for his election campaign; saying he refused his son’s offer of help in the last May elections.</p><br/><p>“On May 7, 2016, when he went here in Leyte and offered help in my candidacy, I told him I don’t need his help. He threatened to close down those who will not comply with the order.</p><br/><p>Recto, the Senate Minority Leader, claimed the government employs a big number of casual employees. He said companies should either just follow the law or close down their business.</p><br/><p>“Huwag na ninyo akong hintayin na mahuli ko kayo because I will be unforgiving. No tolerance ako dito. Ito ang pangako ko sa tao and I will do it. Hintuan na ninyo ‘yan, bayaran ninyo ang tao sa tamang suweldo; stop contractualization. We will do what we have to do. The entire military side has been hardened. It was a huge loss of face,” said the other source who has ties with the government.</p><br/><p>However, another source acknowledged that China is very much aware of the consequences if the tension escalates into a full blown military conflict, and thus, is very unlikely to wage war against the US.</p><br/><p>The source added Chinese leaders still prefer for the resumption of talks between rivals than initiating a clash which it knew would not likely win. The leaders are also very much concerned about the international reactions if the territorial row ends up in war.</p><br/><p>“They’re very worried by the international reaction,” the source – a diplomat – revealed. “They are genuine about wanting to get talks back on track. Some of them will be tagged as violators while some of them will not be,” said the petition.</p><br/><p>“The arbitrary application and enforcement of the curfew ordinances are inevitable given that law enforcers only conduct a visual inspection of alleged minors violating the curfew. Freedom of expression won’t save you. The Constitution cannot help you kapag binaboy mo ang isang tao [if you disrespects a person],” he added.</p><br/><p>RSF’s Asia-Pacific Desk head, Benjamin Ismail, said not only were Duterte’s statements “unworthy of a president but they could also be regarded as violations of the law on defamation or even the law on inciting hatred and violence.”</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>The RSF urged Philippine reporters to boycott Duterte’s press conferences until he issues a formal public apology over his statements on media killings. The group also called on media organizations to file lawsuits against him.</p><br/><p>“Duterte should nonetheless be pleased by the existence of these laws because without them he would also be exposed to violent repercussions, according to his own words. We urge organizations that represent the media to not overlook comments of this kind and to bring lawsuits. <ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>A ranking US Navy official urges Australia and other countries to send patrols near China’s man-made islands</strong></li><br/><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>He reiterates that US will continue to operate in South China Sea as dictated by international laws</strong></li><br/><li style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The US Navy admiral, however, clarifies the conflict should not be seen as US vs. China</strong></li><br/></ul><p style="text-align: justify;">MANILA, Philippines – A ranking United States Navy admiral has called on Australia and other countries to challenge China’s claim of absolute sovereignty over some disputed islands in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea by sending patrol ships to the contested waterways.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, Commander of the 7<sup>th</sup> fleet and one of the most senior officials in the US Navy, stopped short of saying that other countries in the region, including Australia, should not leave it to the Washington alone the task of confronting China’s rapid militarization in the disputed territories.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“This shouldn’t seem provocative. What we’re trying to ensure is that all countries, no matter size or strength, can pursue their interests based on the law of the sea and not have that endangered by some of these actions,” said Aucoin who was in Sydney this week for some high-level defense talks with Australian counterpart.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">But Aucoin conceded the decision remains solely in the hands of these concerned nations.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“It’s up to those countries, but I think it’s in our best interests to make sure that those sea lines remain open, I’ll leave it at that,” the US Navy admiral added.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Destabilizing effect</strong></p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">When asked whether China’s deployment of surface-to-air missiles in the Paracel’s Woody Island would affect US’ preparedness to continue surveillance patrols over those areas, Aucoin echoed Washington’s oft-repeated stand in downplaying any threat posed by Chinese assertiveness in the region.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“We will fly, sail, operate wherever international law allows, including those areas,” he said.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">He also noted the ‘destabilizing effect’ of China’s missiles and urged the communist nation to be more transparent about their actions.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>US vs. China?</strong></p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">However, he clarified that the ongoing diplomatic brouhaha between Washington and Beijing should not be misconstrued as a rivalry between the world’s two superpowers.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">Aucoin’s remarks came after an opposition Australian lawmaker’s call on his government to exercise freedom of navigation in South China Sea by sending ships from the Royal Australian Navy to the areas only China has claimed a 12-nautical mile limit; outside of the international system.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“At the moment, they are not recognized as anyone’s territory and we can sail legally, peacefully, through these alleged 12-mile limit,” Labor Party’s Stephen Conroy, the current Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Senate, said in a statement to reporters.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">Australia has earned China’s ire after the former declared it recognizes the Philippines’ right to seek resolution to the maritime disputes through arbitration.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">The international arbitration court in The Hague, Netherlands is expected to issue its ruling on Manila’s case before the year ends.</p><br/><p><a href="http://kickerdaily.com/us-admiral-urges-australia-other-countries-send-ships-near-chinas-fake-islands/" rel="nofollow">Kicker Daily News</a></p>
