Now that I’m six months in my reign, I realized that it’s about time that I have to get myself tested,” Wurtzbach told <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/global-filipino/06/22/16/pia-wurtzbach-takes-her-first-hiv-test">ABS-CBN News</a>.</p><br/><p>The reigning Miss Universe also took the opportunity to speak out against the stigma surrounding those who take HIV tests, as the United States marks National HIV Testing Day on June 27.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>“National HIV Testing Day is a reminder to get tested, and take care of not only your health, but your love ones’ health, too. It is important to know the facts, and be proactive about protecting yourself, your partners and your community,” she said.</p><br/><p>It is estimated that over one million people in the US are currently living with HIV but around 1 in 8 individuals do not know that they have already been infected by the virus.</p><br/><p>For those who are still having doubts about taking an HIV test to know their status, the Miss Universe has some clear advice:</p><br/><p>“The first step is to take control. Get yourselves tested.
