Using a computerized brain training program, the study showed promise of cutting the risk of dementia by 48%.  according to a report by Julie Steenhuysen of <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-brain-training-dementia-idUSKCN1040TX">Reuters</a>.</p><br/><p>In the clinical trials, the participants have been grouped into 3 forms of cognitive training — a classroom-based memory improvement, classroom-based reasoning training, and computerized training in speed-of-processing, plus the control group with no exposure to any of the training.  They were evaluated periodically in the succeeding years.</p><br/><p>Participants had 10 one-hour training sessions conducted in a classroom setting over 5 weeks. Some received additional sessions one year after the original training, and another four sessions two years after that.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>Statistically, the trial’s four groups experienced sizable differences in  cognitive aging. For those who got the commercially available brain-training exercises, the cumulative risk of developing cognitive decline or dementia over 10 years was 33% lower than for participants who got no training at all.</p><br/><p>“Given that 10 to 14 sessions had these benefits, just think what we could do with more,” said psychologist Jerri Edwards of the University of South Florida and head researcher of the study. “We should be thrilled about this.”</p><br/><p>The computerized brain-training exercise used in the research is commercially available as the “<a href="https://drive.google.com/a/positscience.com/file/d/0ByQhd1qZNUZ4SGJtbVNXZFRGc0E/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Double Decision</a>” game, as per an article published by the<a href="http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-brain-training-dementia-20160724-snap-story.html"> Los Angeles Times</a>. Kailangan talaga naming bumaba yung cases eh. Kaya mula nung ginawa namin ng all-year round, mababa ang cases namin,”</em> Rose Panganiban, a coordinator in Brgy. Wawa, was quoted saying.</p><br/><p>[We started on January up to December. We need to lower the cases. Since we started the project, our cases decreased.]</p><br/><p>The DOH said that aside from cleaning possible mosquito breeding sites and declogging sewer lines, homeowners may also request to have their houses and nearby sewers fogged. This, they said, suggested that miRNAs may carry epigenetic information from obese fathers to their daughters.</p><br/><div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"><br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/><p>Scientists noted that the miRNAs they identified regulate insulin receptor signalling that can be linked to alterations in body weight and other features which is associated with cancer development specifically hypoxia.</p><br/><p>As such, the researchers disclosed that maternal obesity is believed to influence breast cancer in humans.</p><br/><p>Meanwhile, Sonia de Assis, assistant professor in the department of oncology at Georgetown, explained that their study was done in mice. University graduates at higher risk of brain tumor diagnosis

He explained that the infection is obtained by a patient who did not seek post-vaccination after a dog or animal bite.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">In 2014, Davao region has a total of 33,009 animal bite cases, which is a huge increase from 2013’s 20,684 figure.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">“DOH medical coordinator Dr. Gracita Berguia said the high number of animal bite cases can be attributed to improved reporting system and the increase of animal bite centers where people can access easily,” the story wrote.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">The health department has set the country to be human rabies free by this year but the goal seems far-fetched with a rising number of cases. The World Health Organization even noted that rabies continues to be a public health concern in the country.</p><br/><p style="text-align: justify;">DOH reminds persons attacked by animals to avail post-vaccination.
