But the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief even showed up to assure protesters that the police are not there to hurt them, but to protect them. PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa came unannounced and surprised his troops, as well as the rallyists, with a disarming smile and a promise, saying: “Andito kami para kayo ay aming protektahan. Andito kami para hindi kayo saktan.” [We are here to protect you. We are here not to hurt you.] He also thanked the hundreds of activist-supporters who trooped to the House of Representatives in Quezon City to express their support for the President and his promise of change, a complete turnaround from their previous role as the government’s foremost critics. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> “Ako ay nandito sa harap niyo para ipaalam sa inyo na kami po ay masaya sa inyong ginagawa. Nagpapasalamat kami,” Dela Rosa announced. [I’m here to tell that we are happy about what you’re doing. We are grateful for that.] However, the PNP chief also asked for cooperation from the crowd made up of militants bearing different placards expressing their sentiment towards the government’s vow to lift the country out of its misery. “Matatapos itong SONA na peaceful tayo. ‘Wag niyong isipin ‘yung pulis walang problema ‘yan. Hindi ‘yan problema,” he said. [This SONA will end peacefully. Don’t mind the cops, that’s not a problem.] In another unlikely scene, Dela Rosa is seen shaking the hands of Bayan Muna Secretary General Renato Reyes who earlier promised to do away with the traditional burning of effigies at the demonstration. Binay  on Thursday  has assured to complete the construction of the 190,000 houses for the victims of super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ —  if he becomes president. In an article published by the <a href="http://www.mb.com.ph/binay-vows-to-finish-houses-for-yolanda-victims-protect-journalists-from-violence/">Manila Bulletin </a>on April 1, the United Nationalist Alliance ( UNA) presidential bet said he will see to it that the housing projects for Yolanda victims will be finished during the first year of his term. Binay, in his public rally  at Tacloban Astrodome, also included in his platform the protection of journalists from violence as he vowed to prioritize the resolution of the cases of media killings. Citing the sacrifices of the media who died in the line of duty, Binay said he seeks to protect members of the local media; pointing out that violence against the media will have no place under his administration. According to the 73-year-old human rights lawyer, his administration will give importance to press freedom; saying that only a decisive leadership can end this culture of impunity in our country. Among his other platform of government is having an effective management in times of crisis  to avoid a repeat of slow government response during the occurrence of disaster assuring his audience  at the rally that he will manage any cause of calamity. Binay lambasted the present administration for failing to expedite the release of funds which he said were already in the budget but were not released. </div> <div class="copy-paste-block"> He likewise exhorted  administration presidential bet Mar Roxas for his incompetence in managing a calamity such as Yolanda.  “Zero competence, if I may say so,” said Binay of Roxas who is his political opponent during his sortie. At least 17,641 housing units  have been built in 2015. As the government expects to build another 92,554 units by December 2016, Binay said he will direct all government agencies involved in the housing program to address the problem. Binay also assured the swift release of calamity funds to help calamity victims in their speedy recovery and rehabilitation of areas that were affected. This he said after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced the release of P2.25 billion for Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) projects in the Eastern Visayas only a month before the 2016 national elections. The opposition presidential bet also added that poverty can easily worsen in a calamity hit area if the government will not move fast to aid affected people. The former longtime Makati City mayor, had earlier promised to issue an executive order to implement the People’s Ownership of Government Information (POGI) bill during the first 100 days of his administration. POGI is a version of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill, which unfortunately won’t get passed by the end of President Aquino’s tenure this June. The bill aims to give ordinary citizens access to information on matters of public concern and it also addresses the legal loopholes that have allowed government agencies to openly disregard the people’s right to information. Meanwhile, Binay and his running mate Senator Senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II, also seconded the National Press Club’s (NPC) call for candidates running for national posts to disclose their stand on media killings. Birds are some of the few animals still living in our cities, and I began this project because I thought that it was important to make sure that they can continue living here,” Thomas Dambo wrote in an article that was published on <a href="http://www.boredpanda.com/i-made-3500-birdhouses-from-scrapwood/">Bored Panda</a> According to him, the project is about creating a shelter for birds and reminding us that it’s important to leave room for birds “People always ask me if birds use the houses. My answer is that birds move into the houses if there are birds in the area, so birds will not move into the houses if they are hung on a light pole next to a noisy road. But they will do it in a tree in a park. The project is both about creating a shelter for birds, and also about reminding us that it’s important to leave room for birds in the urban world,” he shared. Dambo is an artist and designer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He and his crews make beautiful and fun projects out of “trash” or recycled materials, which they find around the city dumpsters. Alan Peter Cayetano said he also considers it to be a sin based on his personal beliefs as a born-again Christian. “Sa Christian doctrine, yes,” he said; after being asked by Karen Davila on <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/focus/03/01/16/cayetano-open-to-same-sex-union-but">ABS-CBN’s Bandila</a> whether it is a sin according to Christian doctrine. While disavowing same-sex marriage, Cayetano said it is his duty as a public official to protect the rights of the marginalized. “As a public official, you have to make sure that they are not discriminated against,” he clarified. The solon added that while he may not be in favor of same-sex marriage, he is open to the possibility of civil unions for gay couples to protect their rights. “Sa marriage, hindi, pero sa union na pwedeng pag-usapan ng iba’t ibang grupo at ng LGBT, paano i-protect ‘yung union, ‘yung rights nila, ‘yung kanilang property rights, security and everything, ‘di ba? ‘Yung marriage kasi is a word being protected not only by the Constitution, but by those who are against,” he said.
