A woman, who cannot choose which dog to purchase, bought instead the whole shelter which houses 250 dogs in Israel.
In an article written by James Gould-Bourn of Bored Panda, it was disclosed that all of the animals in the shelter were desperately in need of rescuing. Because of that, Danielle Eden found it hard to pick one.
“We were taken to a shelter in Israel that we had never been to before. The conditions were shocking. To say that the shelter was overcrowded is an understatement, with more than 250 dogs crammed into a space with the capacity for 70. There were as many as six dogs in each cage, all fighting over the loaves of bread that they were being fed. Rats were everywhere, and the dogs, most of whom had been there for years, were terrified. For once, it was not obvious to us which dogs needed us the most. They all needed us. We realized that it would be impossible to make a list deciding which dogs would be rescued from this horrific life, and which would be left behind,” it was stated in a Facebook page where Eden is a co-admin.
Helping dogs is not new to Eden; as she has been saving dogs from appalling conditions from all corners of the globe. To note, she is the co-founder of Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary which is an animal rescue center in Ontario.
“We then made the decision to acquire the entire shelter, and take responsibility for all 250+ dogs. In the past two months, 90 have been relocated within Israel to more adequate shelters. 25 have already made the trip to Canada. 150 remain,” it was noted.
A team was also assembled in Israel to clean up the shelter. In addition, while in Israel, veterinarians will be in charge of the dogs to address any immediate health concerns.
“Staff will be working with the dogs every day to socialize them and teach them to trust again. The dogs will no longer be eating bread,” the statement added.
