A video of children crossing a thin rope bridge just to get to their school went viral on the net and netizens are urging politicians to do something about it.
In the clip, two children risk their lives above a raging river just to get themselves to school. One misstep could be their last.
GMA News and Current Affairs visited the place – which is in Purok Gutom, Iligan City – and discovered that there was a footbridge available for these kids but it would take them too long to get to school that way.
They went to the City Engineers Office in Iligan City and they said they will inquire with the barangay.
Education secretary Leonor Briones saw the viral video and said they are already doing something about it. She said she already asked the regional director of DepEd Region 10 to take action.
According to the original post shared by social media user MinYas Mangorsi, the video was taken in G’tum, Brgy. Lanipao, Iligan City.
She wrote, “I hope the government or anybody from this country can do something about this.”
Meanwhile, social media personality Mocha Uson got angry at the video, urging politicians to do their job in order to improve the lives of these children.
