The granddaughter of President Rodrigo Duterte is about to turn 18 with a grand celebration, and because of this, Isabelle Duterte just had the most magnificent pre-debut shoot at, where else, the Malacanang Palace. It was a move that triggered critics in calling out the first family for this controversial move, but netizens have noticed something else: was Isabelle wearing a red gown similar to what Ai-Ai delas Alas donned during the latter’s engagement shoot? Website KAMI first noticed the glaring similarity.
Isabelle’s billowing ball gown in deep shade of red with off-shoulder sleeves and sweetheart neckline was done in princess cut, made by Dubai-based designer, Garimon Roferos. The intricate beading on the bodice and skirt unmistakably made the gown shimmer with every turn, while the voluminous skirt will definitely make one feel like a princess. After all, that’s what the creative team was aiming for.
On the other hand, Ai-Ai’s red gown was created by Cebu-based Lord Maturan. It was also done in vivid crimson shade, sans the puffy skirt and detailed beading below.
According to KAMI’s report, the fashion editorial-like shot of Isabelle amidst her bloody red gown could’ve been inspired by beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach’s prior shoot.
Isabelle’s camp assembled a high-profile team of creatives to pull off her pre-debut shoot. In fact, celebrity stylist Jeff Galang put together the looks of the young woman for her splendid shoot.
Speaking to Preview, he clarified: “I provided everything. [I] commissioned all the designers just for the shoot.”
“We had the ball gown shipped from Dubai. Belle gave me full liberty to choose whatever wardrobe that I think would suit her personality,” Jeff explained.
Apart from the luscious red gown, Jeff also tapped two more local designers, Rosenthal Tee and Rica Rico, for Isabelle’s other looks and wardrobe change for the shoot.
In photos, Isabelle sashayed in Tee’s blush pink ball gown with feathers and leaf pattern, looking quite resplendent amidst the Presidential seal and flags. According to GMA News, the said gown was the same one donned by actress Carla Abellana during a beauty pageant’s coronation night.
Another snap from the official photographer, Lito Sy, showed the soon to be 18-year-old wearing a light-colored floral number by Rico, goofing around the palace grounds.
“I honestly lost count on the number of spots the we used for the shoot. But mostly, we shot in areas also open to the general public,” Jeff pointed out to Preview.
Meanwhile, the debutante-to-be’s hair and makeup were handled by Frankie Bacierto and Winn Ramos, respectively.
Moreover, the gowns were reportedly given back to their respective designers, Preview wrote.
Isabelle is the daughter of Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte with former wife, Lovelie Sangkola Sumera.
