This man from Canada went missing for 5 years and he was found in the Amazon in Brazil!
Anton Pilipa traveled barefoot across 10 countries on 2 continents in 2012. He was a former humanitarian worker who decided to fly abroad and visit the National Library of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Unfortunately, he was unable to go back to his country and went missing for 5 years. Because he is suffering from schizophrenia, his family failed to find him after years of trying. They thought that Anton did not make it and died somewhere.
However, the family was shocked when they received a call about Anton's condition for the first time since 2012 when he left their home. According to the officials, they found Anton in the deep jungles of Amazon in Brazil. The unbelievable news stunned his family as the Amazon is 6,500 miles away from their home in Vancouver, Canada.
The cop who found Anton is also from Canada, so Anton was able to ask help from the embassy to reach his family. The reunion was successful as Anton's family was very happy that he would soon come home.
"I was stunned. I told myself that he was dead. Because that was the only thing I could come up with that explained his absence. But in my heart of hearts, I didn't think he could be. I feel amazed that he's alive and had made it that far," Anton's brother, Stefan, told Daily Mail in an interview.
Reports revealed that Anton traveled from Canada to Brazil through the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, and Argentina. It was found out that he lost all his belongings while he was traveling. He fed on berries, foods found in trash bins and foods from concerned people before he ended up in the jungle.
In 2011, Canadian local police charged Anton of assault and illegal possession of weapons. During that same year, he also started receiving mental treatments. Anton's past records raised doubts from the authorities as Anton may have just tried to avoid his charges so he left the country. However, Stefan immediately denied the accusation.
"I don't think so. He was restless. That is a major form of his mental illness," Stefan claimed.
Anton is now living with his brother and sister-in-law together with their children in Toronto, Canada.
Stefan thanked all the people who supported them.
