The Philippines was crestfallen after their representative Maxine Medina failed to make it to the top 3 finalists in the 65th Miss Universe pageant held on January 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
The Binibining Pilipinas champ was able to make it to the top 6 after the Q&A portion where she was the first to answer.
Unfortunately, she failed to advance to the next round. Many blamed Maxine's loss on her refusal to use the interpreter she was given during the pageant.
However, rumors are now circulating that the 26-year-old Filipino designer and model was able to snatch the 4th place and was the pageant's 3rd runner-up.
These unfounded rumors claim the announcement was made during the after party that occurred on the same day as the pageant.
The rumor was originally spread by a fan page dedicated to Pia Wurtzbach.
The post has now gained 4,500 reactions and almost 1,300 shares as of writing.
Many Filipino netizens expressed joy about the rumor, however, some remained skeptical.
One netizen has debunked this rumor as a hoax as she shared a screenshot of a conversation with Arnold Mercado, team manager and personality development trainer for the Miss Universe pageant contestants. In the screenshot, Mercado says that no official announcement had been made.
