“It is not the work of the police to be wrapping people with plastics and putting them in a bag. That is not the job of the police. I’d just told him that one bullet would do.” This is the powerful statement of President Rodrigo Duterte about the alleged extrajudicial killings against his administration war on drugs at the Press Conference held in Davao last August 21, 2016.
He also vowed to take full responsibility of the operations happening as it was his order for the policemen to hunt down criminals. He said that surrendering peacefully, that would entail the safety of any criminal. But if it turned violent, he also argues that policemen have to defend themselves.
“I do not want people in government dying needlessly for doing his work. Because he will be leaving behind a family and children. Now remember today, we lost another policeman. On the average, on the national scheme, we lose about 2-3 on the average, police officers killed in drug operations.” he said.
He then turned to speak against De Lima saying that De Lima has been destroying his image in front of the cameras even before but does not file formal complaints. He said that this is because De Lima has no evidence.
Meanwhile, senate hearing regarding alleged extrajudicial killings.
