The house of former police general Ret. General Ismael Rafanan at Batasan Hills, Quezon City caught fire a while ago around 8 in the morning. The police general’s wife, Marilyn Rafanan, 69 years old and their child Star Rafanan, 27 years old were reported dead.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Chief Inspector Aristotle Banyaga shared that their house helper reported that she heard a blast around 7:52 in the morning. It was followed by a thick black smoke which they confirmed that the house is on fire. Fortunately, the retired general wasn’t at home when the incident happen.
Rafanan is one of the so-called Euro generals together with retired senior police officials– Eliseo dela Paz, former chief for comptroller ship of the PNP Emmanuel Carta; former chief of the directorial staff; Romeo Ricardo, former director for plans; German Doria, former director for human resources and doctrine development; and Jaime Caringal, former Region IX police director. They were accused of malversation of public funds of about 10-milyon which was supposedly for intelligence funds on a seminar in Russia in the year 2008.
