Cleveland Cavaliers made history after they take home the championship recently. After 52 years, the team has finally won the title. They were also the first team that was able to come back after a 3-1 deficit. The team superstar, LeBron James was the Finals MVP in a unanimous decision. He was all around in every game, from outside shooting, to dunks, and even to unbelievable assists and rebounds.
But anyone would agree that it wasn’t just him who brought the team into success. Kyrie Irving, also rocked the world with his performance during the series. He scored 26 points and 6 rebound during the Cavaliers’ 93-89 Game 7 win over Steph Curry and the Warriors. When asked about his motivation in playing, he said “I was thinking about in the back of my mind was Mamba mentality. Just Mamba mentality, that’s all I was thinking,”
Kobe Bryant on the other hand was very pleased to have inspired someone like Irving. In a press conference held in Manila last Friday, the “Black Mamba” said It means everything I’ve done in my career, it doesn’t just stay on the history books. It doesn’t just stay on the mantle in the form of a trophy,” Mamba’s mentality meant his desire to dominate the hard court through the eponymous snake’s ability “strike with 99% accuracy at maximum speed, in rapid succession.” He added “It’s passed on to the next generation and hopefully they can do the same.”
“The sum of the Mamba mentality to me is to be on the constant quest to try to be the best version of yourself, That’s what the mentality is.”he added.
When asked about Cavs’ performance he said that he was impressed. Quoting from the press conference, he said “”I think they did a fantastic job, LeBron [James] obviously was phenomenal, Kyrie Irving was phenomenal, Tyrone Lue the coach made some really impressive adjustments. It was a fanstastic series.”
Bryant is on a two-day visit in Manila as part of his “Mamba Mentality Tour” spearheaded by Nike.
