- Mayor Duterte is expected to vole last among presidential bets
- Duterte is expected to cast his vote two to three hours before polling places close at 5:00 p.m.
- VP Binay was the first presidential bet to cast his vote
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is expected to vote two to three hours before the official casting of votes ends at 5 in the afternoon.
“He sleeps at daytime,” Peter Laviña, spokesperson for Duterte and head of his media team, told reporters at a press conference at Duterte’s media center in Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Laviña said Mayor Duterte will cast his vote at Daniel Aguinaldo High School in Matina District, Davao City between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Niña P. Calleja of Inquirer said that according to the mayor’s spokesman, Duterte plans to keep out of sight until he casts his vote partly due to security reasons.
“He will show up when he comes to the polling precinct. This is partly due to security reason,” Laviña said.
Duterte will be the last presidential candidate to cast his vote as his rivals have already voted.
The first to vote was outgoing Vice President Jejomar Binay. He went to the San Antonio National High School in Makati City to cast his vote only minutes after the polling places opened at 6:00 a.m.
Binay hoped there will be no massive cheating and that the elections will be honest and clean.
At around 7:a.m., Senator Miriam Santiago voted at the La Vista Clubhouse in La Vista Subdivision in Quezon City.
Liberal Party bet Mar Roxas voted at the Rufina Andrada Santos Memorial School in Roxas City, Capiz at around 8:30 a.m. As he exited the school, he was greeted by supporters who cheered him and chanted “Mar Roxas! Mar Roxas!”
He thanked them but asked them to stop as campaigning during the Election Day is not allowed.
“Baka ma-technical tayo,” he said.
Meanwhile, Senator Grace Poe voted at the Sta. Lucia Elementary School in San Juan City.
