- The BOC seized 252 ecstasy pills inside a parcel from Germany
- The consignee was arrested by the CAIDTF when he claimed the package
- The seized illegal designer drugs has an estimated value of P378,000
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted over 200 pieces of unlabeled pills suspected to be ecstasy pills in a postal services firm in Parañaque City.
Inquirer’s Estrella Torres mentioned in her article dated May 27, 2016 that the party drugs, also called designer drugs, that were found in a package from Germany were declared as make-up kits.
BOC Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said 252 pills worth around P378,000 were found inside the package consigned to a certain Jesus Galahad Rumbaua.
The seized contraband were subjected by the Customs Anti-illegal drugs Task Force (CAIDTF) to qualitative examination and the initial result showed they are identical to Ecstasy pills.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 26, the BOC said: “The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed the positive result on the presence of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (or MDMA) with those pills, locally known as ecstasy.”
After claiming the package, Rumbaua, the consignee, was arrested by CAIDTF operatives for violation of R.A. 9165, otherwise known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“The Bureau of Customs condemns the transportation of illegal and unregulated drugs using various parcel systems. This is a particularly popular method of transport because it is relatively safe and inexpensive, but the BOC will apply the full force of the law when proven guilty,” Nepomuceno said.
