• The hacked website of the Commission on Elections has been partially restored
• The poll body’s spokesman, James Jimenez, said the site has been up since May 3
• Jimenez said they are in the process of improving the online site to make it more secure
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) website that was defaced by a member of a hacking group, Anonymous Philippines, was partially restored; an official of the poll body has announced.
James Jimenez, the Comelec’s spokesman, said the website has been up since Tuesday, May 3.
Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista also announced the news on ABS-CBN News Channel’s “Beyond Politics.”
“I’m pleased to announce, in fact this is not yet known, that the Comelec website is resuming operations today. I am doing the announcement on your show,” he said.
The website, however, offers limited functionality as some of its features are undergoing maintenance.
Jimenez said the public can now view the list of registered voters by precinct, wherein they can find their precincts by choosing their province, city/municipality, and barangay.
The list of voters with deactivated status as well as those without or incomplete biometrics data can also be viewed now.
The Precinct Finder is still down, but voters who wish to look for their precincts and other voter information may call the Comelec hotline at 525-9296, or text 0918-5668301. The poll body may also be reached through its official Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Jimenez said they are in the process of improving and simplifying the system to make the site more secure.
“If we simplify the system, we are decreasing the number of attack surfaces, which makes it easier to protect and, therefore, more difficult to penetrate,” he said.
