DAVAO CITY, Philippines – When we see pictures of political candidates, they are usually surrounded by familiar faces. If not with their running mates, probably with their campaign teams.
And in the case of PDP-Laban standard bearer and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, besides VP aspirant Allan Peter Cayetano, there’s this one guy who seem to be surrounding the mayor too much that, according to Inquirer, ‘editors cropping photos in newsrooms have dubbed him the national photo bomber’.
His name is Christopher Lawrence Go or Bong Go to people who knows him. He has been Mayor Duterte’s aide since 1998, but he wants to call himself his all around utility man. The guy is a management graduate at the De La Salle University.
Go handles almost everything about the Mayor: be it political or personal. He scrutinizes every requests and appointments, and has been with the mayor even at the most dire situation. He was there when the mayor filed his candidacy for presidency, and is now the mayor’s campaign sortie manager.
August Tesoro, Go’s grandfather, happened to be a very close friend of Mayor Duterte. Tesoro was the son of the founder of the largest printing press in Davao, and was one of the principal sponsors of Mayor Duterte and his first wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman’s wedding.
According to Go, “They (Duterte and his late grandfather) were close friends”.
Go said Duterte is a soft-hearted person who “doesn’t doesn’t want to hear people being oppressed, victimized”.
“I consider myself the mayor’s all-around utility man”, he added, saying he is happy to serve the mayor and that ‘whatever the mayor has done for the city and the country, he considers himself a part of it by serving Duterte’.
Asked about Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s accusations to the mayor, Go said there is no truth to it.
“I know the mayor. I have been with him for the longest time. I know the money never existed.”
