- A typhoon Yolanda-wrecked house is now a tourist attraction in Iloilo
- Windy Willows is located in Ajuy, Iloilo and a property of the Barrett family
- Tourists enjoy the view from the place where Mount Kanlaon can also be seen
Typhoon Yolanda, like many other typhoons, caused a lot of devastating damage in many areas in the Philippines. If at all possible, people want to forget the painful memories of the calamity which took thousand of lives and damaged countless properties.
Resilience, with which Filipinos are known to possess, inspired one family to turn their home – which was wrecked by Yolanda in 2013 – into a tourist attraction in Iloilo City.
In an article written by Rod Macenas of ABS-CBN, it was disclosed that the house which is owned by Barrett family is now called Windy Willows. The Windy Willows is a tourist spot in Ajuy, Iloilo that gives visitors a chance to enjoy, not only the beach but the spectacular scene — including the view of Mt. Kanlaon which is located in Negros.
“Come and give it a try. There’s a lot of other things to do here,” said Mat Barrett; noting that visitors can take a walk up the hill and trek, too.
Despite having no television, the tourist destination has wi-fi spot; so everybody can easily upload their videos on Instagram or Facebook or on other social networking sites.
Typhoon Yolanda is one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. It entered the Philippines on November 8, 2013. It is the deadliest typhoon in the country on record; killing at least 6,300 people.
Perhaps, it is true that Filipinos — either by blood or at heart — has mastered the art of creating a rainbow after the rain… or even after a typhoon.
