The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) raided a cybersex ring in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija on Tuesday. March 1.
Armed with a search warrant, the raiding team, led by Chief Insp. Ronelio Manaog, chief of the PNP-ACG in Central Luzon, swooped down on TLS Synergy Group, which advertises itself as an online marketing firm, at around 12: 30 a.m.
In a video report by Saleema Refran on GMA News TV’s “State of the Nation with Jessica Soho,” Refran said that with its row of computers, the TLS Synergy Group looked like a call center. Its chat operators work in three shifts.
The operator of the raided establishment is a certain Florendo Holgado, the subject of the search warrant issued by Judge Richard Paradeza of the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 72. He was not around during the raid.
Twenty seven chat operators were arrested during the raid, including seven female operators who were caught chatting with clients while showing pre-recorded videos of females performing simulated lewd acts.
The raiding team seized 30 computers, 31 cell phones, three printers, two monitors, two telephone sets and router from the suspects. The computers are now being subjected to cyber-forensics to determine if the group is also involved in “sextortion.”
Senior Supt Guilermo Lorenzo Eleazar, PNP-ACG director, said: “We have reason to believe that the suspects’ activities could lead to ‘sextortion’ after we discovered that the company was engaged in the maintenance, control and operation of lascivious exhibition of sexual organs or sexual activities in front of web cameras for a fee.”
The suspects are facing charges for violating Republic Act 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
