- Senator Bongbong Marcos says young voters should be allowed to judge whom to vote in the coming election
- He urges the youth to decide who has done much for the country and who hasn’t
- He is endorsed by the Ynares family and several prominent Rizal politicians
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. remains defiant amid strong oppositions to his vice presidential bid by various groups of alleged martial victims and by no less than President Benigno Aquino III himself.
During his campaign sortie in Morong, Rizal on Monday, February 29, Marcos brushed aside Aquino’s tirade against his family at the 30th year commemoration of the EDSA People Power by saying the voters – especially the young or the so-called millineals – should be left to themselves to judge who they believe deserves to be elected in the upcoming election.
“We are approaching an election and let us allow those who vote in the elections to make their own judgment as to who did the most for this country and who had the opportunity to do much for this country but who did not,” Marcos told students of the Tomas Claudio Colleges.
The vice presidential aspirant was reacting to a question on what he thinks about Aquino’s remark that the Marcoses should not be allowed to return to Malacañang.
So far, two groups – the Anti-Bongbong Coalition (ABC) and the Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang (CARRMA) – have launched separate campaigns this month to block Senator Marcos’ vice presidential bid.
Without mentioning names, he called on the youth to be more vigilant and discerning in their votes and not to be fooled any longer by candidates who were already given the chance to serve the country but failed to deliver what was expected of them.
“I’m asking them to make that judgment as many of them are first time voters,” said Marcos who urges students to look at the track record and performance of any candidates before casting their votes.
“It is a guide for them how to choose the people that they will vote for, how to choose the candidates that they feel will serve the country well,” he told reporters in an interview.
Bongbong got the endorsement of Rizal’s influential Ynares family who declared the province a ‘Marcos country’.
He was welcomed by Governor Rebecca Ynares, former governor Casimiro Ynares Jr., Vice Governor Frisco San Juan Jr., Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III, Antipolo 2nd District Rep. Romeo Acop, Antipolo 1st District Rep. Roberto “Robie” Puno and former Antipolo Mayor Angelito Gatlabayan who all expressed support for Marcos’ bid.
