MANILA, Philippines – With police set to finish their own autopsy report by Thursday, March 3 to confirm whether she did indeed die of asphyxia by strangulation as stated by her death certificate, the fiancé of deceased Solaire Resort and Casino assistant manager Edgel Joy Durolfo has released his affidavit denying foul play in her death.
In his statement, Rodney Ynchausti said he and Durolfo — together with their friends Josiebell Lim Uy, Molo Hwang and Paulo Egoc— took Ecstasy pills and were partying inside one of the hotel rooms on the night of the incident. He added it was Durolfo who brought the drugs for their get-together and that it was their fourth time to have taken them.
According to a separate affidavit by Uy, Durolfo was dancing when she accidentally bumped banged her head hard in the door of the walk-in closet. However, she continued her routine after her friends found no sign of injury.
At around 1 AM, Ynchausti said Durolfo suddenly began to complain having difficulty breathing so he loosened her upper garment and gave her water. He added he and his friends also tried to bring her to the clinic when her breathing became more labored but returned to the hotel room and gave her a bath instead as they were afraid they might be seen by hotel employees.
By 3:30 AM, however, Ynchausti — who said Durolfo’s nails had turned dark and was suffering from seizures — and his friends brought her to the hotel clinic where they were advised to immediately bring her to the hospital.
According to the clinic physician, Dr. Avelino Dequilla, the victim at this point was no longer responsive.
“I ordered for the administration of diazepam thru injection at the patient’s muscle. I ordered for the immediate evacuation and transfer of the patient to San Juan De Dios Hospital,” he told GMA News.
Durolfo’s senior manager, Philip Chin, said he was later approached by Molo and Uy who admitted they had indeed used Ecstasy after he asked Ynchausti whether he had a fight with Durolfo.
Ynchausti, who has not surfaced since the incident, said he went into hiding because he was scared after being confronted by Durolfo’s father and because of reports he would be facing murder charges.
Ynchausti was previously identified by a 2011 Dumaguete Metro Post news article as a budol-budol gang member who was arrested after swindling P67,000 from a dentist’s credit card.
