A whopping amount of P1 Million had just been pooled to catch the notorious driver and bodyguard of Senator Leila De Lima for whoever who can give reliable information regarding his whereabouts. Last Tuesday, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) has just made the announcement.
‘This P1 million is for information leading to the arrest of Mr. Ronnie Dayan Palisoc who is the subject of a warrant of arrest from the House of Representatives for contempt on the Committee on Justice for failing to appear despite proper service of subpoena,’ says Ferdinand Topacio, lawyer of VACC during a forum last Tuesday held in Quezon City.
Dayan is facing grave accusations by President Rodrigo Duterte claiming that he was Senator Leila De Lima’s collector of drug money during her days as the Justice Secretary.
Dayan was also with De Lima in an illicit affair, which the senator has owned up to on her exclusive interview on ‘Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie’ on Monday.
Despite the warrant of arrest, Dayan still remains at large.
The House Justice and Human Rights Committee has earlier conducted an inquiry regarding the proliferation of drug activities inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and has summoned the presence of Dayan.
Unfortunately, he never showed up, pushing the committee to take matters into hand and issued a warrant of Arrest against Dayan for his refusal to attend the hearings. Barely an hour after the issuance, the committee have withdrawn the warrant.
After Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo Fariñas‘ motion, the warrant was withdrawn, giving the driver a chance to explain his side.
According to Topacio, seven businessmen donated the bounty money for Dayan which he along with VACC chair Dante Jimenez presented during the forum.
“May isa akong kaibigan, actually dalawa na nagsabing, ‘Bakit hindi tayo magkaroon ng reward para kay Dayan?’ Nag-pledge sila P100,000… Nag-uusap lang kami over dinner… tapos nag-snowball, naging P1 million,” explained Topacio.
The initial offer of VACC for any information regarding Dayan is P100,000.
Tapocaio also explained that the administration of the reward is being coordinated with the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG). He is also coordinating with PNP to assure the informant’s safety.
‘May protocol sila diyan. They will setup a hotline, and then lahat ng informants will be assigned a codename,” Topacio said. ‘I will entrust the CIDG in informing me na itong tao na ito ang siyang nagbigay ng impormasyon leading to the arrest of Ronnie Dayan, doon mismo ibibigay ang cash.”
