Countries should work more closely to fight terrorism, and build societies that are truly open and tolerant so to root out the soil where it grows,” said Li while at an Asia-Europe summit. <div class="easy-ads"><div class="easy-ads-lite easy-ads-lite-bidvertiser-middle"> </div> </div> The Asia’s giant has been seeking the support of the Western countries for their own “war on terror” ever since the attack in Paris last November. China had their own dose from terror group as hundreds of people had been killed in the western region of Xinjiang, an area home to the Muslim Uighur people. Throughout the years, Western countries had been reluctant to share intelligence with China or otherwise cooperate. Trump offered his prayers and support to the victims of the attack described by President Barack Obama as the most deadly mass shooting in American history. The US presidential aspirant underscored his presidential campaign’s central message – that the United States needs to be tougher to combat Islamist terrorism. We must be smart!” Last year, Trump has called for a total and complete shutdown of US borders to Muslims in the wake of the San Bernardino, California terrorist attack on December 2, 2015  where 14 people were killed and 22 others were seriously injured. Speaking to Rappler’s Maria Ressa on Sunday, April 11, Gunaratna reportedly said that the ASG group led by Isnilon Hapilon has already pledged allegiance to ISIS and is no longer loyal to the bandits’ recognized leader Radullan Sahiron. “The group responsible is the Islamic State, led by Isnilon Hapilon in the Philippines,” said Gunaratna; head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research at S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and author of the book Inside Al-Qaeda. The security expert added Hapilon is the current leader of the ISIS branch in the Philippines, and has, in fact, taken responsibility for the deadly clash between the terror group and government troops. “So it’s wrong for anyone to say that this is a fight with the Abu Sayyaf because in Basilan, Isnilon Hapilon and all the other commanders have pledged allegiance to (ISIS leader) Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi. They are no longer loyal to Radullan Sahiron, the Abu Sayyaf leader,” Rappler quoted Gunaratna as saying. Earlier, Gunaratna warned that broader security measures is needed to secure the waters shared by the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia or it will end up as a base of operation, not only for terrorists, but for criminals as well. The three Asian neighbors, Gunaratna said, must come up with a strategy that will effectively control and secure the Sulu Sea and that a stricter military solution is required to address the problem before it blows out of control. Gunaratna cited the incident last week wherein four Malaysians were abducted by gunmen in the Pulau Ligitan in Semporna and have reportedly been held captive by Abu Sayyaf in Jolo, Sulu. “The terrorists are engaged in hostage taking with the aim of eventually turning the area into a ‘safe zone’ to conduct attacks against these countries,” the security analyst earlier told Today. On Sunday, 18 soldiers and 5 bandits were killed in a clash in Tipo Tipo, Basilan in a gun battle that lasted for nearly 10 hours. Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Maj. Filemon Tan said 50 more soldiers were wounded. He mentioned the recent attacks in Belgium, where at least 31 people were killed by Islamist militants, as well as those in Turkey, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Iraq. The Pope condemned the Brussels attacks several times during the past week, including at a Good Friday service where he said followers of religions who carried out acts of fundamentalism or terrorism were profaning God’s name. “May he draw us closer…to the victims of terrorism, that blind and brutal form of violence which continues to shed blood in different parts of the world, as in the recent attacks in Belgium, Turkey, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire. May he water the seeds of hope and prospects for peace in Africa; I think in particular of Burundi, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan, marked by political and social tensions,” he stated. “With the weapons of love, God has defeated selfishness and death,” he noted.
