<ul><li style="text-align: justify;">NDRRMC records a total of 13 dead, 42 injured during the Holy Week observance</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Most of the fatalities were victims of drowning</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Vehicular accidents were the major causes of injuries during the Holy Week observance</li> </ul>A total of 13 people died while at least 42 were injured during the observance of the Holy Week, according to data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council  (NDRRMC). The fatalities were mostly from drowning incidents recorded in the provinces of Cagayan, Ifugao, Benguet, Quezon, and Batangas. The NDRRMC recorded at least nine incidents of drowning throughout the country. Meanwhile, majority of the 42 injured were due to vehicular incidents. At least nine vehicular accidents and one fire incident resulted in three injuries in Central Luzon, five in CALABARZON, 18 in the Cordillera Administrative Region, and 16 in Northern Mindanao. Incidents were also recorded in the Cagayan Valley region and in MIMAROPA. Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor told <a href="http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/560510/news/nation/13-dead-42-hurt-during-holy-week-observance-ndrrmc">GMA News</a> that despite the untoward incidents that occurred during the Holy Week, the observance of the holy days were generally peaceful. The PNP recorded 20 drowning incidents between Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday, which resulted in 22 deaths and two missing. In addition, the PNP reported nine vehicular accidents that resulted in four deaths and at least 55 injured, while a motorized banca capsized, resulting in one death. The PNP had set up ‘Oplan SumVac’ aimed at ensuring strict law enforcement and public safety operations during the Lenten season, which involved setting up Public Assistance Centers (PAC) in strategic locations in major thoroughfares, passenger terminals, airports, and seaports. Law enforcement officers also recorded violations of the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), as well as incidents of street crime and possession of illegal drugs during the Holy Week observance. <a rel="nofollow" href="http://kickerdaily.com/ndrrmc-dead-during-holy-week-observance/">Kicker Daily News</a>
