COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said vote counting machines use a stand-alone system which will give hackers difficulty in breaching it, an article written by Pia Gutierrez on <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/halalan2016/nation/03/28/16/automated-polls-hacker-proof-says-comelec">ABS-CBN</a> stated. In addition, Jimenez disclosed that the automated polls use encrypted data and a virtual private network which makes it secured. He also added that election results will be transmitted to multiple recipients; making it difficult to hack. Other ways of adding safety has been installed such as a separate website that will be utilized by the COMELEC to upload the results of the May 9 elections. The new website, the COMELEC assured, will have tighter security features as compared to the official website of the election agency. Meanwhile, hackers from Anonymous Philippines on the night of March 27 posted a message at the COMELEC website; blasting the poll body’s initial hesitation to activate the security features of the vote-counting machines (VCM). With this, the COMELEC ensures that it targets to restore the website’s affected applications anytime soon. As of 12:35 p.m. of March 28, several of the website apps were still down to include its search function, precinct finder and video demos.
