Kathryn Jewel Golbin just impressed the judges at France Got Talent (La France a un Incroyable Talent) with her incredible rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” and advanced to the next round.
But that’s not just it. She made them cry because she’s inspirational! Golbin, unlike other contestants, is blind.
She goes by the name Alienette Coldfire and she was asked by the judges how she learned to speak French.
She said it was her online friends who taught her the language for three years. “I learned with my friends through the Internet. When I heard Edith Piaf’s ‘La Vie en rose,’ I wanted to understand the lyrics. That’s how I learned French,” Golbin said.
Golbin also said she’s out to prove everyone who doesn’t believe in her that she can achieve her dreams even if she’s physically impaired. “At home, it is said that the blind are unable to do great things. They are wrong. There is always another way to live like everyone else,” she said.
The Iloilo native impressed the show’s jury composed of Gilbert Rozon, French illusionist Eric Antoine, Helena Segara, and Kamel Ouali with her rendition of the French version of the song “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables.
“I’m usually cold-blooded but now, I’m emotional. You have a gift from angels,” Rozon said.
Meanwhile, Antoine was left speechless after her performance.
“I’m speechless. From the first note, I got chills. It’s rare for me to not know what to say, I do not know what to say. Your strength and vulnerability is absolutely sublime,” he said.
Helene became teary-eyed while watching her perform and only managed to tell the Pinay singer, ” Thank you, it means so much. “
