Actor Ryan Reynolds poured out his heart in a tear-jerking tribute to a young Deadpool fan who had just recently succumbed to cancer.
In a Facebook post, the Hollywood hunk recalled how his young friend Connor Macgrath struggled to ‘drop-kick’ cancer for three straight years until the fight eventually came to an end last week – maybe because, to his own words, ‘cancer cheated’ the boy.
“Connor was 13. But this kid… He was smart. He was funny. And not just funny ‘for a kid’ – or funny ‘for a person battling something awful’. He was unqualified funny. He had that… thing,” Reynolds wrote, adding: “That thing you see in great performers or comedy writers. A running commentary/observational skill people are just lucky to be born with.”
Reynolds said his young friend went too early, which is impossible to reconcile; describing the brave boy as “a great friend, a great son, and a light to the people lucky enough to know him.”
Connor was the very first person to watch Deadpool through the arrangement made by the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. Although he got to watch only a rough cut of the superhero film which starred Reynolds, he didn’t seem to mind.
It was the film, the actor said, that brought them together, even for a short while.
“I went back to Edmonton 6 weeks later and I wish I could say things were looking up. After my visit, I didn’t know if I was saying goodbye or see ya later. Sitting here now, I realize it was both,” Reynolds wrote.
He added: “I’m grateful I got to orbit Connor’s world for a brief time. Grateful for the pages and pages of hilarious texts between us. Grateful to his parents for allowing Connor to spend time with a foul-mouthed child in the body of a 39 year old.”

The two even had coined a name for each other – Connor was ‘Bubba’ to Reynolds and Reynolds was ‘Bubba2’ to Connor.
Reynolds said Connor had become the superhero ‘Deadpool’ to him, in certain sense.
“Or, at least everything Deadpool aspires to be; balancing pain, fearlessness, love and a filthy (filthy!) sense of humor in one body. I wish he could’ve stuck around a lot longer,” he said.
Lastly, the actor sent his deepest condolences to Connor’s family, especially to his parents, and urged everyone to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
“See ya down the road, Bubba,” his post ended.
