- Davao City mayor is biggest gainer in newest poll survey
- He overtakes Binay for the second spot, comes close to frontrunner Poe
- Roxas also comes close, Santiago a far fifth place
- Pollster says results mean the race has become tighter than ever
MANILA, Philippines – Digong is the biggest winner in the first poll conducted after the presidential debate.
Results from the survey conducted by Laylo Research Strategies from February 24 to March 1 show the tough-talking mayor garnering a 24 percent score— a jump of four percent— among 3,000 registered voters spread across 79 provinces and 17 cities in Metro Manila.
The respondents said they were definitely voting in May.
With the score, Duterte outpaces Binay’s 23 percent— a one percent decrease from his last score— for second place.
Not far behind them is Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas who garnered a score of 22 percent.
Perennial presidential frontrunner Sen. Grace Poe meanwhile retained first place but saw a huge drop from her previous score of 29 percent to only 26 percent now.
Feisty Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago finished dead-last with a score of only 22 percent.
The survey was conducted with a +/- 1.8 percent margin of error.
According to Junie Laylo, resident pollster of The Standard, the newest survey results would indicate a very close presidential race.
“The race is expected to be very fluid given the upcoming debates and increased sorties of candidates,” he told Rappler.
Poe remained the top choice of urban voters but went behind Duterte as Class ABC’s preferred presidential candidate. He also leads among voters in the rural areas.
Binay meanwhile tied with Poe among voters in the National Capital Region, North, Central and South Luzon, and Bicol Region.
Roxas on the other hand emerged as frontrunner in the Visayas except in Eastern Visayas.
