Former president and Manila mayor Joseph Estrada has called on the public to support President Rodrigo Duterte in the midst of the impeachment complaint filed against him.
The former Chief Executive said that Filipinos are lucky to have a leader like Duterte who has dignity and is willing to put his life on the line especially in the fight against illegal drugs. As for those who filed the complaint, Estrada said that the country cannot move on if they will always have politics in their mind.
Estrada recalled that he was impeached and now they are using impeachment against President Duterte. "They might regret it again." said Erap. He recalled the time that the Church and former President Cory Aquino made a public apology to him for supporting the campaign to oust him before.
Meanwhile, President Duterte welcomes the complaint filed against him last week. He said that such a move by his opponents is part of a democratic process. The President also said that a case will likely be filed against him as well before the International Criminal Court.
The impeachment complaint was filed by Rep. Gary Alejano of the Magdalo Party List. He cited the following grounds: 1) engaging in bribery 2) betrayal of public trust 3) graft and corruption 4) other high crimes.
Malacanang dismissed the complaint as part of a destabilization plot against the Duterte government. The President's allies in the House of Representatives said that the move will not prosper.
