It’s hard to lose someone we love – especially when we watch them take their final moments. It’s an inevitable part of life that we all must face.
We can only hope to make someone’s last days worthwhile before they head into eternity.
This family lost their loving father and husband in a touching, bittersweet ending.
Native Texan Mark Aulger was diagnosed with a lung disease called pulmonary fibrosis. This disease is characterized by scars forming in the lung tissue.
He underwent 8 months of chemotherapy and was able to beat cancer around Christmas time. Normally this would be fantastic news for any family with a sick father. Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
They were shocked to hear that the chemotherapy had severely damaged Mark’s already scarred lungs. Doctors informed the family that their dad only had a week to live.
Mark understood what his situation meant so he had one last wish – to see his 5th unborn child for the only time.
Diane, his wife, faithfully agreed and risked an induced labor. Two weeks passed and she gave birth to their baby daughter Savannah. After being born and cleaned, Mark was the first to hold his daughter. They had their
first and only father-to-daughter chat for 45 minutes.
The following day, he held baby Savannah once more before slipping into a coma a minute later.
Mark peacefully met his Maker two days after.
Our prayers and thoughts go to Diane and her 5 kids. We hope they can find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
