Known for his odd-defying stunts and circus acts, David Blaine has made a name for himself by sneaking up on people’s senses and doing what seemed to be impossible.
His recent stunt, however, almost ended his life. The 43-year old world-class entertainer pulled of what is likely one of the most dangerous acts he has attempted, as he shot himself in front of 20, 000 people in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
He revamped his 2010 attempt to shoot himself by attaching a string to the trigger and pulling it himself.
He prepared for the main event by letting his friends shoot him in the chest while wearing a bullet-proof vest, after which he was fitted with a special gum shield to protect his mouth for the big stunt.
He put a small metal cup inside his mouth, but it kept slipping off which was a sign of problems that would arise later.
Blaine had a laser pointed at him from the gun and aimed it to the metal cup in his mouth, and pulled the string that fired the gun. The metal cup shattered into pieces and lacerated his throat.
During the action, David narrated what was happening and explained: "Time just started to move really slow. When the bullet struck the cup, there was a high-pitched ringing in my ears and I felt an impact on the back of my throat.”
"I was sure the bullet went right through my head and that I was dead. Suddenly I became aware of the pain and it brought me back. At that moment I realised that the mouth guard had shattered again, and I was alive,” he added as he described the horrifying moment.
The doctors said that he was okay, but people dubbed him as David Insane after that stunt. Despite many calling it a fail, David said that he still plans on using it for his upcoming world tour.
