More than a month had gone by since the passing of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, but the love people have for her continues as many still visit her grave at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina to pay their respects.
The widow of the late senator, former Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Narciso “Jun” Santiago Jr said people would go to her grave by groups or together with family to give prayers and take pictures. Santiago admitted encountering some from far provinces such as Laguna and Quezon just to pay respect to the late Iron Lady.
“I’m happy that people are still showing their love and affection for her,” he told.
From October 31 to November 2, people came to visit all throughout the day even staying late until 10 at night. On the first day of November, during All Souls Day, at least 200 people came to visit, many youths came by saying they missed the senator’s pick-up lines.
Santiago admitted visiting his wife’s grave every day, bringing three roses as he prayed and cried on the tomb, even embracing it from time to time.
“I really miss Miriam. Biro mo we were together and happily married for more than 50 years. Now, suddenly she’s gone. It’s difficult to live without her.”
Miriam lays next to Alexander Robert, her son who passed away in 2003. The senator died on September 29, 2016 after her long battle with lung cancer.
