MANILA, Philippines – With the Bureau of Immigration (BI) confirming the exit of his son Kerwin out of the country, a tearful Rolando Espinosa Sr. urged him to return and give himself up peacefully.
“If you’re watching TV, I’ve been suffering so much. Let’s just surrender,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted the mayor of Albuera town in Leyte as saying during a press conference in Camp Crame on Wednesday. “At least the President and Philippine National Police chief Ronald de la Rosa could help us. I’m hoping that if you surrender, they will help you.”
The younger Espinosa was confirmed as having flown to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia aboard Cebu Pacific Flight 5J501 last June 21. He has an outstanding arrest warrant in connection with his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade; with authorities tagging him as one of the biggest drug lords in Eastern Visayas.
While admitting that his son was involved in illegal drugs, the older Espinosa himself denied being a drug dealer and said he did not know convicted drug lord Peter Co who was identified as one of his son’s suppliers.
“I don’t know him. I only saw him on television. I only heard Kerwin could be getting his drug supply from NBP through Peter Co,” he said.
Espinosa also denied using drug money for his election campaign; saying he refused his son’s offer of help in the last May elections.
“On May 7, 2016, when he went here in Leyte and offered help in my candidacy, I told him I don’t need his help. I told him to just leave otherwise my candidacy will suffer,” he said.
