- During Pres. Duterte’s inaugural speech, social media users saw something mysterious on the Philippine flag beside him
- Not a few thought it was the face of Jesus Christ
- Others believed the image was “photoshopped”
The Philippine social media is abuzz with different opinions on the mysterious image that “appeared” on the Philippine flag during President Rodrigo Duterte’s inaugural speech.
Right after he was sworn into office by Supreme Court Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes at exactly 12:00 noon on June 30, Duterte signed his Oath of Office. After which, a voice was heard introducing him as the President of the Philippines.
The new president was then prompted to go behind a lectern to deliver his inaugural speech. Behind President Duterte were two flags. The Philippine flag was on his right side, while on his left was the flag of the Philippine President that bears the Presidential Coat-of-Arms on a blue background.
While most people were focused on the message of the new president’s speech, some social media users who viewed the recording of the speech on the internet saw a mysterious face on the Philippine flag.
A lot of netizens, who were obviously Christians, believed that what appeared on the blue part of the Philippine flag was an image of Jesus Christ. One netizen, however, asked if anyone had seen the real Jesus Christ to say that the image on the flag was his.
Others were skeptical and suggested that the image was “photoshopped.”
Was it really Jesus Christ’s face that social media users saw on the flag or was it just a case of Pareidolia?
As per Wikipedia, Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a stimulus wherein the mind perceives a familiar pattern of something where none actually exists.
Classic examples of this phenomenon are perceived images of animals, faces, or object in cloud formations and most currently the little humanoid on Mars’ surface.
