- They will verify the information first and conceal the names so as not to hamper any investigation
MANILA, Philippines – In exchange for his life, he’s willing to tell all.
According to officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro—alleged to be one of the country’s big-time drug lords—is willing to cooperate with authorities amid his fears he will be killed just like Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz.
“As part of that he should cooperate with us,” NBI Bohol Director Rennan Augustus Oliva told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, in reference to their guarantee of safety for Alvaro and his family in exchange for his cooperation.
Alvaro, purportedly Diaz’s right hand man, voluntarily turned himself to NBI agents in Bohol four days after Diaz was killed in what police said was a shootout in Las Piñas. He is currently detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Before his surrender, he was labeled by authorities as the No. 4 top drug lord in Central Visayas.
Atty. Jojo Yap, a regional director of NBI, said Barok has in fact already revealed the names of police officials involved in the illegal drug trade. However, Yap said the names won’t be revealed for now pending verification.
“I don’t have the exact figures right now, but he mentioned several names, and unfortunately, I can’t tell you the names right now because we are trying to validate and confirm those information,” he said.
Yap added the information Barok has given will be helpful in their anti-drug campaign especially in Cebu.
