- Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III is all set to leave his 6-year mandate on June 30
- Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. said the outgoing President has started packing up
- He is more than ready to step down noontime of June 30
Barely a week before his term as the country’s highest official, President Benigno Aquino III is all set to leave Malacañang.
No-less than Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. revealed that the outgoing president of the republic has started packing up, and is more than ready to step down from his post at noontime of June 30, an article written by Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez on GMA News Online stated.
“Ang batid ko ay matagal ng naumpisahan ito at handang-handa na siyang lumisan sa araw ng Huwebes, ika-30 ng Hunyo sa susunod na linggo,” Coloma was quoted saying.
[From what I know he has long started this and is all set to leave on Thursday, June 30, next week.]
Colomo also noted that there is an established practice that the outgoing and the incoming President would meet, insinuating that Outgoing President Aquino, who will be succeeded by President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, will meet before the latter takes his oath.
Meanwhile, work continues for Aquino even in his last week as President. His schedule included gracing the separate anniversary celebrations of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Health (DOH) last June 23.
In his speech during the DFA anniversary, Aquino said he was smiling because he is about to step down from his post after six years tenure.
Part of his last week speaking engagements likewise include the commencement exercises at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City on June 25.
Earlier, Aquino said he was confident of leaving his office with his head held high, saying he tried his very best to serve the people and remained true to his mandate.
“Ang masasabi ko po, sa darating na ika-30 ng Hunyo, pagpalo ng alas-dose ng tanghali, matiwasay tayong makakababa sa puwesto, makakalingon nang taas-noo sa sambayanang Pilipino, at mata sa matang masasabi: Tumotoo ako sa inyo. Tumupad ako sa mandatong kaloob ng aking mga Boss,” he disclosed.
[What I can say is that on June 30, at the strike of 12 noon, I will peacefully leave my post, I can look straight in the eyes of the Filipino people and say: I remained true to you. I fulfilled the mandate given to me by my Bosses.]
